Facebook problems

First off please understand two things:

  • I have NEVER used my Facebook email or password within Windows 8
  • I have NEVER used my Hotmail account with Facebook

So would anyone mind telling me why when I click on the Photos app the machine has all of my Facebook photos there and I can see them all? I find this behavior very creepy. How is Windows 8 getting into my Facebook account when I have never accessed Facebook when using Windows 8 and the email I used to associate with Windows 8 has never had anything to do with my Facebook account?

Just trying to find out what's going on so I can put a stop to it, thanks. :)

So no one knows why this is going on? Guess I will stick to Windows 7 until Windows 8 can learn to behave itself and not hack into my Facebook account.

Just a suggestion, but this could probably gotten more attention in General Discussion versus Chillout...

Did you allow access of the Photos app to your Facebook profile? Do you have ANYTHING signed into, like Skype, or People or some kind of other app that has any other email account associated to anything? Usually, a Microsoft account will end up having a Skype account stick to that account or something like that.

There LITERALLY is no single way the Photos app can just pull down your facebook picture albums like that without being given certain permissions to, either within the app, or somewhere else. If you want to quickly fix it, just open Settings, then Options, and then uncheck Facebook to hide that, or uninstall it if you want altogether.

Actually I started this thread under General Discussion. Someone moved it. Don't know why.

Did you allow access of the Photos app to your Facebook profile?

No, I did not. I have not accessed Facebook in any way while using Windows 8.

Do you have ANYTHING signed into, like Skype, or People or some kind of other app that has any other email account associated to anything?

Everything I am signed into is Gmail or Google based, nothing Microsoft based. I don't use Skype, don't have a Skype account. I have not used Gmail or any app that is Google based while using Windows 8.

All I can think of is that Windows 8 searched the net, matched my Windows 8 user profile with my Facebook profile and did all of this without asking.

Interesting...

That's a pretty far stretch that the Photos app would do that, I've literally not seen anything like that every happen so far at all on any Windows 8 PC I've worked on.

You're not signed into a Microsoft account are you?

I have two email accounts. I use my Gmail account for everything. I use my @msn just for Windows 8, nothing else. I have never used my @msn account for anything other than setting up Windows 8. My Facebook account uses my Gmail account.

Good thing I don't use Windows 8 for my main OS.

Are you genuinely sure NOTHING is associated with the msn account to gmail or to facebook? ANYWHERE?

The MSN account was created a few weeks ago just for Windows 8. This email address has not been used for anything other then signing on to Windows 8. Facebook uses my Gmail account. I have never signed on to Gmail or Facebook while using Windows 8. I looked it up, and it looks like Windows 8 matched my Windows 8 user name to my Facebook user name.

I could go into settings and remove Facebook. What would be the point of that? Just trying to figure out how Windows 8 is doing this behavior.

There's literally no possible way for this to happen. Facebook doesn't keep records of Windows 8 user names to associate them with user profiles. There's something there, whether it's the People app or Mail app or something.

It was a joke :) Same thing happened to me but i did log into facebook and when i opened the pictures app for the first time (i never used it before) all my facebook pics were there and all facebook friends were in the people app AND in skype. It seems windows synced everything on my behalf without asking , still it was easily sorted but none the less annoying

If you sign into Windows with a Microsoft Account, that will happen. This is by design to simplify digital accounts, like an aggregator. You give permission RIGHT THERE at the account prompt to allow information from your accounts to things like that. Not creepy, just read what's there rather than clicking Next.

Wrong. I signed into Windows 8 with an account that had NOTHING to do with Facebook, and I didn't dign into anything while using Windows 8, and to top that off I didn't sign into Facebook at all while using Windows 8 This is clearly an abuse of privacy.

Windows 8 is a crappy OS. I will stick to Windows 7 until Windows 9 comes out. If 9 is like 8 I will just switch to Linux.
