Report: Nokia to bring blockbuster 41MP EOS Windows Phone to the US this summer | Windows Phone Central

Well today, I post this. Nokia is rumored to be announcing one of their few new Windows Phones that apparently have been working on since April of last year. The screenshots of the phone seem legit considering the new Start button on Windows Phone wasn't officially announced until June that year.

If it is true, this means for the first time for Windows Phone, and a first in the US market, a 41 MEGAPIXEL camera!! :dinesh::dinesh::party::party::dinesh::dinesh::party::party:

Granted of course, it's an oversampled five megapixel sensor, but still. The Nokia 808 PureView has a lossless zoom lens in it, and just GORGEOUS imagery!! OH!!

I don't see the point. If you need this level of quality, you should NOT be using a cell phone to take the picture. I just simply don't see why anybody would want this.

Why even have a camera on a phone at all? Why even have dual core processors in phones? Why even have smartphones altogether?

The saying goes that the best camera you have is the one on you. No one lugs around a DSLR camera, but they carry around their smartphone. Just a simple process of technological evolution.

Because it's nice to be able to snap a picture at a meeting, or take a picture of something at work, or snap a quick cute picture of the dog or kids.

I think it's great to have a camera, and it's great to have some quality to the camera, but I just see so little value in anything over 5-8 megapixels. Are people really snapping pictures with their smartphones and then printing them out poster size on their walls? Does anybody go to a professional photographer and expect to see a cell phone on a tripod? Are professional wedding photographers using smartphones now to take pictures?

Heck, I have a 10 Megapixel Nikon DSLR myself and hardly ever take anything more than 5 Megapixel shots. They simply don't offer me any added value and simply take up more disk space.

But it's all about marketing and people will say, "zomg, it's got 41 megapixels, I haz 2 upgrade".

Exactly, it's nice to be able to take a quick picture of a moment, but given the choice between meh and superb quality, who would choose meh? It's also the same with the Lumia 920 and low light photography and impressive video stabilization. Knowing that the 920's camera is the best, why go to a non-OIS system? Simply because it's better. Having an awesome PureView camera is just better. Granted, not EVERYONE apparently wants good picture quality, but for those that do, this is amazing.

I can see the advantage of always having a camera on hand. But I don't use cellphones - so it will be my little Olympus 16MP.

I don't take that many photos and it's easier and quicker to use my phone, I've always got that with me. The camera is usually in a drawer and you can be sure that when I want to take a photo with it the batteries are flat.

My phone is the HTC Wildfire S and it takes pretty good photo's.

Well done Nokia.

I don't think anybody will object to it.

But how many would pay extra for that one particular feature?

But it's all about marketing and people will say, "zomg, it's got 41 megapixels, I haz 2 upgrade".

Yep, there are bound to some of those.

Considering that camera technology is one of the main reasons why a certain phone is better than the other, a LOT of people would consider, especially if they're shutterbugs. Between my trial Lumia 920 and my Lumia 900, I've taken over 2,000 pictures in 10 months and dozens of videos. If I can have a camera that offers excellent zooming without terrible quality loss, supreme HD video recording, and everyday images that come out better than most people's point-and-shoot digital cameras, I'm buying that for sure. 8MPs are fine, but when you have an oversampled 5MP image from a 41MP sensor, who says no to that?

And I don't want to be this guy, like I'm guessing some people here are...

I've never really even considered the camera when switching phones. As long as it has one and it's not awful, that's all that I concern myself with.
