    I'm Back

I'm back and ready to begin dual-booting, after settling in with my new computers.
Spent a lot of time with family and want to see you guys back at Eight Forums. All of my PC's are up and running with a fresh copy of Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. Now, I am considering a dual-boot, but with what OS?
Doing it for the fun of it really, always nice to play around with another operating system.

Nice to see you guys again.

Unless you have a really weak PC, I would suggest running the other OS's inside of a virtual machine rather than screwing around with dual booting.

Since all of the versions of Windows are more or less the same, try a Linux distro or something if you are looking for a challenge. Mint linux is a good place to start. I've got tons of experience with CentOS (which is a Red Hat Enterprise Linux clone)...so I can provide guidance and assistance if you need it on this.

    Welcome back Grant.

I agree. Using a virtual machine for the other OS would be a good idea.

I'm the third one who agrees on VM usage instead of dual-booting then.

Didn't even noticed you were gone but welcome back Grant.

VM's are an excellent way to investigate alternate O/S technology. Completely safe way to see how things work with absolute-zero impact on your primary system. Have used these for years.

Try Zorin - I have a lot of fun with it in a virtual machine. Mine is even on an external disk.

Having fun with Zorin - Windows 7 Forums

Portable OS - Carry your OS on an External Drive - Windows 7 Forums

And this excellent tutorial by Shawn will help you set it up (the Zorin method is the same): VMware Player - Install Windows 8

It's true for Windows, all are alike. I did dual boot with Linuxmint. Just for fun.

    Welcome Back, TheGrantFitz!
For dual boot, if you have a strong system VM is the best option.
For weaker system go dual boot with Linux distro's
