TWAIN is a good one, but not very interesting. It's like GNU.

Yes, it may be cute to say these slang terms but continuing to propagate the myth is more damaging in the long term. Educate your kids right. Teach them how to pronounce these terms properly. If your an adult using these terms, stop now and show your willing to step above the silly uneducated crowd.
I was going to stay out of this one, but I then decided to put my two cents worth in--or should I say $.02 worth or 2 cents worth. I'm not sure how you think it should be said but here's my main point. You seem to be deeply concerned that a whole generation of people are mispronouncing computer terms incorrectly. Allow me to tell you a bigger problem about this whole generation--something more important than mispronouncing computer terms incorrectly. What is the problem? Or should I say what are the problems? How about so many people living in poverty--people who want to work to earn a living but can't find a job. How about so many children who are not receiving the proper care, guidance and love from their parents? How about all the children who seldom see their parents--if at all? How about all the people who are suffering from illness. How about all the homeless people in this world? How about all the wars--countries fighting each other--people killing each other? How about someone walking into a school and randomly killing a bunch of little children? I could go on and onwhich makes the problem you talk about which seems so big to you very insignificant.
You said that you have an assignment from God? That's good.Try and tackle some of the problems I mentioned. By the way, you say thatyou're in your 40s? I've been around for a while, too. I'm 81--almost twice your age.

I think, and I hope, OP was joking about a "mission from 'god'".

In IT, depending on where one will end up, the average "user" will probably not be familiar with these terms. Many don't even know what to call a desktop computer.

It was a funny line from one of my favorite movies, The Blues Brothers, and I thought I'd borrow it for kicks. I'm not that much of a zealot. I could have thrown in some Mystery Science Theater 3000 quips but I fear references to The Puma Man and Zap Rousdower would have gone over everyone's head.

I got a kick out of this. You might as well add SQL or "see-quel" to it.

Not so irritating but slightly off putting are people that say "bang" (!) and "whack" (\).... Kill me now.
