Got some All in One HPs at work

At work, we use Dell. For whatever reason, they wanted the HP all in one's.

I wasn't surprised that I did not get an OS install disk. However, surprised to find that recovery media is specific to each individual machine per serial number.

So, for each of the 4 machines, I have to create the 5 disc DVD set and keep them labeled as to which computer they belong to.

    Quite disappointed.

It's 20 discs to burn, it takes a ton of time. And if I lose that machines media, I cannot restore it.

Not a very business friendly setup.

What was the reason for the HP switch over Dell?

It was simply for these All-in-Ones...which we are going to use at a trade show. Our everyday office machines aren't switching away from Dell.

5 DVDs per machine??? Holy cow, why so many? What's on those things?

I could see one OS restore DVD if the OS license is tied to a serial number but I'd think everything else would be the same. What a nightmare!

That does not sound like an "enterprise" solution but a "home" or "small business" solution... I can see how that would be very frustrating...

Here is the best part, HP only allows you to create the media ONCE. It tells you at the end that you need to protect the media because you cannot make it again. So, because I elected to make the 5 DVD's, I couldn't later decide to purchase a USB 3 key and store it on there instead.

So according to HP, you can only use it one and only 1 computer, and you can only create it once in order to protect licensing.

Really do not see this as being HP's fault. It would seem that someone at your company did not take a choose look at what they were purchasing.

I didn't say it was HP's fault. I said I was disappointed in them compared to my Dell experience These are just 4 computers for a trade show booth. In reality, if anything did happen to them, it would be a matter of reinstalling Windows from scratch and just utilizing the OEM license burned into the mobo anyway. This would eliminate all of the value added extra stuff that HP included that we don't particularly want anyway.
