Well there was a thread for Start Screens, and I thought we'll start in the Chillout Room and work our way out.

This is mine when Taskbar isn't hiding.
It's just more relaxing to minimize everything, lean back to comfort zone and enjoy my escape out to nature.
When I had taskbar at the bottom, the toolbars would all be stacked behind a popout arrow.
I accidentally dragged the taskbar to left side one day and liked it. All of a sudden I had a file cabinet full of shortcuts.

I just installed Windows 8 a few days ago along with Classic Shell yesterday, so my desktop is still in a state of flux. I have settled on a stable start screen.

arachnaut▬ Just wondering where you found your desktop background. I like it, just without icons or taskbar showing.

My system is still in a state of flux, too. I've been pretty busy so I haven't had the time to tweak my desktop too much yet...

So I rebooted my computer after a crash, and after logging in the screens were completely black and my mouse & keyboard was unresponsive. I did Crtl + Alt + Del which brought up the correct menu, and after I exited it I was put onto the start menu, which was blank. Just like the login screen and...

I don't know what to call the old desktop since the tile version is called Metro. But when working on the old desktop version and you want to clear everything off the screen and just view the desktop, where is the button for this? XP had this button, but cant find it on W8.
