    Oh dear....

Well, something that EVERY single tech head fears more than death, hard drive failure.

Today, my 500 gig hard drive has expired, it is a former hard drive, it is gone to be with other dead hard drives, this hard drive is not a hard drive anymore!!

Worst part about this, I had no backup for it, as I had never thought a hard drive would die so soon, only two bloody years! I was going to have a backup soon, like in about a few months. So this makes this even more sucky! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, every curse word in the book ever uttered by mankind. This sucks.

But on the brighter side, I did have all my recent documents and pictures in SkyDrive, and I have all my pictures from my Windows Phone on it. I do have my 16 gig flash drive with music, although my 90 or so gigs aren't there anymore. I think I can pull off some music from my Windows Phone as well.... I have my Microsoft account running, but it seems things aren't syncing over as they should like my IE Start Screen pins. But, I do believe Santa will be getting me a new hard drive for Christmas!

I'm right now using a secondary hard drive that I was using for video content and such, but I deleted some videos to clear some space, partitioned, and reinstalled Windows 8.

    Oh Hells Bells right now....

It looks like my lesson here is, use Storage Spaces in Windows 8, backup whatever possible as frequently as possible, and design my new puter case to have lots of hard drives and good cooling.

I have never had a hard drive failure myself, but I know how it feels. There has been times when I needed to reformat because my computer was unusable. This was in my early years I did not have a backup computer or multiple hard drives like I do now. I been there loosing all my documents, loosing MUSIC!, and loosing art, saved game files.... I gave up on a lot of games because I lost my save files and shortly after (no more than 1 month) It happen again.
I know the pain, Right now I have a system image and file history enabled on an internal HDD of 1TB, 1 OS HDD, 1 media/installation HDD. Now I feel a little safer, now my biggest concerns are house fires, earthquake or anything alike.

I think most of us have experienced data loss at one time. I feel your pain.

OOOHHHH!!! All the time spent tediously arranging my MUSIC FOLDERS! It was a perfect OCD setup!! UGH!!!

And a few days ago, I just rearranged my Pictures library as things were getting out of hand, and THAT'S gone! I only have my documents and pictures from September 13th in my SkyDrive!

    Woe is me!!

Did you not know about the backup sensor on all hard drives? If you don't do backups it is sensed and the drive will commit suicide. If you do regular backups the drive will never fail.

Hard drives fail all the time, even new ones... This is why I have a home server with all data written to 2 different hard drives in the server. Everything is backed up... It makes me laugh whenever people talk about SSD's and how they could fail at any time, heck, I've had hard drives fail regularly... Of course, I work on old/broken/abused PC's , so I'm bound to see a lot of failed hardware.

I work with on slightly abused laptop PCs quite often, as that was one of the reasons I put a 2.5" hard drive bay in my old desktop case. Those hard drives are much more inclined to go fowl due to user abuse.

Desktop hard drives are something else, I've NEVER personally come across a desktop hard drive die in 27 months, unheard of to me. I've read of DOA drives from Newegg, usually because the person bought a batch of hard drives, too many hard drives in one box can do something weird to them.

Well today, I designed my new tower to hold a total of five 3 in 2 hard drive hot swap cages. So lots of storage potential! LOTS!

I decided it was time to upgrade to your latest 2013 Model 8, although my old car the sporty Model XP7 I like so much is still running and serving me well. However, it has become a bit small for our family needs. The retailer told me that Model 8 is what I need as you do no longer produce Model...
