The win8 lovers will ignore it of course.

Seems spot on to me.

Excellent article -- well organized, well-written, based on actual testing results, not a bunch of pro- or anti- Windows 8 hype.

That said, I remember watch a movie entitled My Cousin Vinny, which has scene in which the defense attourney presents such a well though, well-organized objection that the Judge actually compliments him on it -- and Overrulles it, anyway!

I think that pretty much portrays the best treatment of this article will get from the Win8 fanatics here.

I have to say, I'm not a novice, and I can use Windows 8 fluently like 7.

I must be screwing up the curve.... :)

Read this at the beginning of the article. I guess he couldn't find the Desktop. No wonder he didn't like it.

One of the worst aspects of Windows 8 for power users is that the product's very name has become a misnomer. "Windows" no longer supports multiple windows on the screen.

I have no problem with what was reported even if it may make Microsoft look poor which I don't care. They only care about my money and if I can't give them my money they will just ignore me they aren't going to help me out of a tight spot. Anyways my biggest concern was their sample size, I am sorry but a sample size of five? Nielsen Norman Group: UX Research, Training, and Consulting
That's a complete joke, how can I take this site seriously? They also did not specified how they came to their conclusion and what methods they used.
If they are going to claim big things I expect professionalism at it's best!

That's just my take on NNgroup.com I will take their "Groundbreaking Research" with a grain of salt.

Hi Guys
Everything is subjective when it comes to user experience.
I have been using Windows since the 3.0 days and Find Win 8 quite refreshing.
I also use a Samsung Tablet with Android and I can see where MS is going and I think it is good.
I will never go back to Win 7 or Win XP which used to be my OS of choice.
My biggest gripe with Windows as an ex Windows Application programmer is the registry system which replaced the old .ini .
Linux, which I also use seems so much easier to manage if you are into that side of a computer.
Have a good XMAS :D

Well so far I'm getting on fine with the new OS, yes it's different but it's a completely new OS and if I'd wanted to use a computer that looked like Windows 7 I'd use Windows 7, well I still do actually but that's on my desktop machine. I'm using Win8 on a new Notebook, it's not touch screen but as well as learning a new OS I've having to learn how to use a laptops touchpad. I'm getting on with both fine and have got my own picture when the machine first boots up plus have the Start screen showing my colours and patterns and the apps I use the most at present.

Yes there are things that still confuse me but there are other things so much quicker. I know people have installed third party programs to bring back the familiar start button but I haven't it's a new OS and I'd rather learn how to use it as is before I decide it's not for me.

So far I'm using it more than my Windows 7 machine even though I still like using that machine and still have things on there I haven't put yet on my lappy. ;)

Sorry, but when confronted with a wall of text my beat up, stroke infested brain just says that it is going to be nothing more then a couple more BS examples of my someone hates Win 8. If I; someone who as had a stroke and two mini strokes can figure out how to use windows 8 then those with a clear brain should have no problems.

The only thing I can add to any of this; is please get over it. Sorry Microsoft didn't call you and ask for your help.

Lee, I don't think it is that simple. The problem with Windows 8 is that it is a hybrid. It does not feel natural on the desktop. That's why so many people make all those tweaks to make it look like Windows 7 - but what's the point.

And on the tablets it is going to have a hard time too. But that for different reasons - Price for the Pro and lack of Apps for the RT. Compare that to a $199 Nexus 7 which works beautifully and has a gezillion apps - some of which are really good.

BTW, the more I use Win8, the more I like it! I do have the "crutch" installed (Classic Shell), so I'm not using the Metro side very much, but once a day or so I venture over there and play a bit. I use my PC for work, so I need to remain as productive as possible and Win8 with Classic Shell works for me!

Actually, Coke, so was I. If it wasn't for the list of annoyances that stacked up on me I might have stayed with it. To people who aren't techies, though, it can be a bit daunting.

Eight is actually OK. If I bought a new system with it pre-installed I'd probably stick with it. My problems might have been because I updated my existing system. My machine is pretty complex and I don't feel like re-installing everything from scratch unless I have some catastrophic failure or something. There just isn't enough extra functionality in Eight to warrant that kind of effort right now. Maybe I'll try again one of these daze when I have nothing better to do.

Exactly. That is the reason why I stay away from /8 too. And since I will not need a new PC in the near future, I will probably skip /8 (unless they do something fantastic with SP1 or SP2).

No SP. MS has indicated it will not be doing SPs, instead they will do like Apple and issue updates that will be geared toward changes in the OS and not just virus or malwear.
