To get the info of gfx, go to run and type dxdiag.
Based on the info and estimation of gfx, maybe you just need to upgrade the RAM to 8gb and buy a usb drive

To find your graphics info, go to Start and type in Device Manager, hit the Settings tab on the right and hit enter. Then double click the Display Adapters drop down, you'll see your graphics card.

For your RAM, you will need to use CPU-Z...
CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Hit the download link on the right side, the 64 bit installer preferably, and when you open up CPU-Z, hit the Memory tab and you'll see what size RAM stick is in what slot.

Most likely, it'll be a four gig stick on the lower slot (slot 0?) and two gigs for the upper slot (slot 1?). Basically, if you were to get access to the RAM on your laptop's motherboard, the two gig stick will the be first stick above the bottom RAM slot, which will be a four gig stick.

For external storage, you will most likely use the USB port. You can get an external hard drive, which has more storage obviously. But be careful, don't DROP THE EXTERNAL DRIVE! Bad voodoo!

And what do you mean by gb?

Run the tool provided above and find out how many slots are being used, how many slots you have altogether and what size modules populate those slots, report back

I think it does. Onboard graphics of a laptop isn't that weak.

Intel 3000 graphics is more than fine for Windows 8, unless if you want to do serious Photoshopping or 3D modeling. Even then, it'll be fine. But for the RAM, I have to wonder, what makes you want to add more RAM? Unless you have a solid state drive, I don't think two extra gigs will do too much to improve performance. Now a SSD, THAT will REALLY improve performance for Windows 8!
