Does this mean Microsoft windows is going open source? Windows Blue is going to be free? Or something else?

    Well as a complete guess...

They could "open source" the Metro UI. The fact is, Microsoft gives out a huge amount of it's upper level source (though not it's build environment). All of the C level source and MFC source and a lot of .NET have always been available.

I doubt they will give away their low level stuff though, i.e. the kernel, the file systems and networking code.

But much like they wanted .NET ported to competing platforms, even more I can see them wanting metro base code ported to other platforms because they would then still make money from the app store and the advertising APIs. (Though they would have to be careful that that wasn't taken away by competing app store and advertising servers)
