What NOT to buy on Black Friday

I'd still buy a new Windows 8 PC.

Now, if you use DVDs frequently, get a good player like VLC player. No need to trip out over that. It's WAY better than Media Player ever was.

Dual Desktops? What? How I use it, the metro aspect of things is just an extension of the Desktop for me. Just an added piece of functionality that I welcome on the PC with vastly better hardware and larger screens to view content more decently and neatly over a four inch smartphone.

And the ads within apps? What? The ones at the VERY end and never pop up in your and you accidently click on them and have try to figure where the blue hell the X button is at to get rid of the ad? Maybe my internet connection is slow or something, but I've never actually seen an ad within the apps themselves other than a Toyota and a Gain detergent ad. Even still, the built in apps in Windows 8 are app versions of Bing's internet services. Just like if you went to Outlook.com or gmail, you'd see adverts regardless.

We don't have Black Friday here. Not a delightful name - sounds like a horror movie.

I haven't mentioned it before - but the ads coming from software shipped with win8 are astonishing.

Arte they targeting them? If so - how? Isn't that a bit rich given the do not track setting in IE?

If you opened up paint or notepad in any other os - to be greeted by a pile of ads - there would be an uproar.

Somehow it's ok now is it - why - because it called an "app". ?

Bizarre.

This is true. :thumb: My next PC will of the future of powered by ASUS and the ROG lifestyle.

That quote is intense by the way.

But I still have my heart on a Surface Pro alongside my new desktop PC and a red Nokia Lumia 920. :D

Black Friday used to be a fun tradition as it's the first official of the Christmas season. Some retailers think Black Friday means 9 PM on Thanksgiving. Sales aren't what they used to be, as deals are better online on Cyber Monday. It's also interesting because a day after being thankful for what we have, we go out and trample people and get into fights for consumer goods. :)

Now, I just went to the actual Bing Weather site, there are a couple of adds shown. NOT all apps have advertising in. Bing Weather app does because it's an app from a site that is free to use, but needs ad revenue. If the app didn't have advertising, that would be used over the site which does. It's like the same conflict facebook has right now. Their site has awful ads, which has been found no one cares for as it's a social network not google, but their app doesn't really have advertising and a lot of facebook users are mobile.

Tom's Hardware app for Windows 8 doesn't have advertising, yet. I went on the site today and had to deal with a popup ad that got in my face. I prefer using the app because it doesn't have ads. If you don't want ads in apps, buy the app! It's either that or deal with advertising. But the preinstalled apps in Windows 8, to me, don't really fall under the category of it shouldn't have ads. You bought the OS, with apps that came preinstalled with it. Those apps are primarily app versions of web sites. And again, not all apps have adverts, Bing Maps app doesn't. Bing Finance does.

Black Friday is fun. We always first get our free breakfast at SAM's club. Not because we have no breakfast at the house, but it is nice to mingle. Then we check out some stores. We are usually too late for the doorbusters, but a USB stick or another small item is always in the cards.

A few years ago I bought a really nice $960 desktop at Office Depot a few days before black Friday - with some rebate. On black Friday I picked up a few more rebates and ended up paying $480 - half of the list price and without fighting the crowds.

Black Friday a few years ago was REAL worth the while. Sales were worth it for some people to start throwing punches. It's not worth the while nowadays since Cyber Monday has MUCH better deals and you have access to more versus what's in stores. If I were buying puter parts right now, I'd hit up Newegg on Monday.

Last year, some friends and I had IHOP for breakfast and I passed out and work up an hour before I had to leave for work. Good day though.

Does have a sinister sounding terminology. The term "Black Friday" is when the retailers turn their books from red ink (profit loss) to black (Profit gain).
