Solved Random BSOD

Friend of mine put together this system for me a couple weeks ago. Installed the Win 8 preview, worked fine for a couple days. Now it's randomly crashing, doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing - downloading files, surfing the web, watching videos, playing games, checking my email, etc etc. BSOD gives me different error messages almost every time. Checked the mobo connections and made sure things were seated and all, updated drivers, ran the automatic repair - I'm at the end of what I know to do. Friend that built the system is out of town, so I'm stuck trying to figure this out.

It's been like a week since I posted this and no reply. I'm going to assume that there isn't anything that can be done to get this system up and running right. :(

Hold on. I'm on my phone so I can't see your specs. When I get to my PC I'll look. Sounds like hardware problem though. This post will bump you up for others to notice too.

BTW ->Welcome to the forum.

Ok. I see your specs. Nice rig! The problem is, though, that I won't download your zip file. Sorry. I don't know you. Can you post some screen shots? I suggest to open the files and take shots.

I greatly appreciate your help!
What software should I use to open the files? Is it the debug tool in the SDK?

Not sure what you mean. Are these are error reports? Error popups while installing? Did you compress them?

Keep in mind that these are only suggestions. What you do is your responsibility.

Ok. I downloaded your zip files and took a look. You originally installed on 8/2/2012. I think you have both hardware and software problems.

First, the rig needs to be checked at physical electrical connections again, for something doesn't seem right hardware wise.

Then I suggest you do a drive format and a total reinstall to see how that goes for about a week or two, then load other software. You need to get this rig stablized before you go on. Your registry may be too far cluttered by now. You have a hell of a lot of dump files, so this thing crashed a lot! You loaded too much software all too soon, especially on a new rig. I would even suggest to load OS 7 to accomplish this. Then perhaps dual boot 8 to tweek it. That's the way I would go about it.

Suggestions/Questions:

#1, Have you or your friend checked to see if the BIOS, MOBO, processor (which 8 might be having a problem managing multi-core or needs to be configured), video card, peripherals, etc. are compatible with 8 before you built the rig?

#2. Your running Google Chrome -> Not compatible. Causes crashes.

#3. I can tell you're a gamer. Some program called DCGame.exe caused an app hang right off the bat 1st day. Doesn't look compatible. Usually what worked on 7 will work on 8, but not always. Are you using the compatibility mode when installing older software? A one dirt3_game.exe, StarCraft II.exe, Civilization V, Blizzard, are others.

#4. You have driver problems. Some, at times, don't load. Have you checked the Device Manager? There should be yellow warning signs there. What are they? Load correct drivers.

#5. Your System Information says you don't have any problem devices, but log files say that some device was not connecting. Possible loose connection?

#6. Somewhere along the line your computer name changed. Did you do that?

#7. You had a bad block on a cd you tried to install. Was it a restore disk?

#8. You had a lot of unexpected shutdowns. There may be trouble with the PSU. Possible loose wire? Overheating? Too less of wattage for your cottage? Bad power/plug protection strip?

#9. Do you overclock the core?

There's more, but I'm done for the night. Let me know what you think and/or do.

All in all you sent a lot of reports to M$ through the Customer Experience Improvement Program! :p

Thanks a lot for your help - my buddy is supposed to be back in town by this weekend and says he will help me run through your list of suggestions. I'll let you know how it goes!

And actually the loading win7 idea is something he suggested we do. I'm digging around for my install disks as we speak.

Did you get this rig design online or did your friend design it? I suggest you mark this thread solved. You can always start a new one later. We can use PMs in the mean time.
