Hi NathanD212,

Welcome to 8forums :)

if i run chkdsk /r will it check both partitions at once?

I have been having this issue, along with other people recently. I think it may be the recent windows update. This guy did a system restore before the update and it seems to be working. I did a system restore and I will see if it works. In my dump file it appeared to be an issue with nvidia drivers.

just started getting dpc watchdog violation crashes : windows8

acording to that reddit post it is potentially aused by the spectre/meltdown update microsoft pushed, if i am running ryzen 7 and b350 chipset will that cause issues, i do not want to try and remove updates before i at least get someone elses opinion.

i believe that it is due to a broken MS update, after uninstalling KB4056895 i was able to run multiple firefox tabs and 2 steam games (quite recent releases) at the same time for at least 2-3 hours without issues. i also found and will link the exact comment from a bleepingcomputer thread that shows someone else was able to resolve this by doing the same:

i dont know if i should mark the thread as 'solved' because i dont believe that what i did is a true fix for the issues potentially caused by MS update KB4056895.

should i keep this thread the way it is until MS releases a proper update/patch that covers spectre/meltdown without horrible BSOD or should i say that its solved and simply tell people to uninstall that update for now?

yup that seems to be the culprit, but then microsoft has also released a patch KB4073576:

"An update is available to fix the following issue that occurs after you install January 3, 2018—KB4056898 (Security-only update) or January 8, 2018—KB4056895 (Monthly Rollup): AMD devices fall into an unbootable state."

but it doesnt do anything for some reason, so i just unistalled both that KB4073576 and KB4056895 and clicked hide update

You will want to install those updates, if you don't, you could compromise your system by accidentally visiting a wrong website.
