Hi,

I previously posted this problem that I am having with Windows 8. I was asked by usasma to post my problem in a new thread. Thank you usasma!

Here goes... My problem modified

Hey,

I am currently experiencing problems with Windows 8 freezing up. Here are the problems that I have been having;

  • I am browsing the web and watching a film and the sound will stick, repeating and I am unable to do anything until manual restart.
  • I leave the desk for a bit and the computer is idle and, when I come back it has either frozen or everything slows down until I cannot do anything else with the computer
  • Just browsing the web using chrome, freezes.
Whatever the case, I can not access task manager, or even open the menu on right click. One time I had task manager open and tried ending tasks, each time I have to hard restart the computer. Even still.

I have attached the files requested in other threads for diagnosis (had to do 2 since I could only upload 8mb files) and would love some assistance if possible.

If you need any more information please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Biggids - please start your own topic so that your issues can get the individual attention that they deserve.

While waiting for a reply, please update the drivers for the 3 problem devices listed in MSINFO32 (they're supposed to be also listed in Device Manager). You'll have to enable the disabled WiFi device in order to update it:

Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4235&SUBSYS_11218086&REV_00\4&52E6DB&0&00E1 This device is disabled.
Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface ROOT\*TEREDO\0000 This device cannot start.
Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module USB\VID_413C&PID_8187\68A3C44793FE Failure using the VxD loader.

Just FYI - you can "fix" the Teredo device by right clicking on it and selecting "Uninstall". When you reboot the device will be reinstalled if needed (but in most cases it's not needed and it isn't reinstalled).

I have enabled the WiFi, and tried updating. See image...

I uninstalled the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface

I tried updating the Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module. See image...

Please let me know if I can provide any further information and thank you in advance!

Sorry, but I'll need a bit more information. Please run this routine and post back with it's results: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 8, 7 & Vista (although designed for Vista/Win7 it does work on Win8)

While waiting the next step will be to download the Dell drivers to your desktop (from the Dell website)
Then uninstall the current wireless and Bluetooth software - and then install the freshly downloaded stuff (this is to rule out possible corruption in the currently installed drivers).

Have a look at this post for some other suggestions for fixing freezing issues in Win8: http://www.eightforums.com/crashes-...ons-freezing-problems-culled-other-posts.html

Hi Usasma,

Thank you again for your response and guidance. Please find attached the results from stages 1 through 4 of the
"Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 8, 7 & Vista". Are the other steps in that thread also required?

I will download all the relevant drivers to my system and look over the other thread. Thanks.

Not sure if I should write this or not as I don't want my luck to run out but since I have been using IE for browsing and disabled some non critical processes for startup, there has been no instances of freezing (knock on wood)

I will post back once the other steps are complete! Should I uninstall/install the drivers in safe mode?

Thanks again.

Your Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module has configuration problems. Please update the drivers. If the problems persist, then disable the device (preferably in the BIOS, but in Windows if necessary).

Windows 7 didn't like wireless USB devices, so I suspect that Win8 will behave similarly. Especially with older drivers these devices will spit out BSOD's at a rapid clip! Please uninstall it's software and physically remove this device from your system.

Lot's of people have issues with Chrome - please uninstall it to see if that helps.

Good luck!
