Just talked to g skill tech support. They said that the memory is compatible.

it also seems very suspicious that I can't even boot from a USB.

I suspect that the CPU settings in the BIOS are wrong because of the CPU replacement, that is why I suggested to load the optimal default settings in the BIOS

Ooo I didn't even realize I could do that during this loop process. I'll try that now.

So I went to bios settings and restored optimal setting and finally got it to boot. Could the CPU not running at optimal settings before be the reason the temps were getting so high?

I played a quick game of BO3 after installing msi afterburner and hwinfo so I could directly monitor the temps while playing.

i was hitting temps around 68 with 40% usage of CPU. is that normal? I feel like I should be getting temps that high with not even half CPU usage. Also hittigpng around 44 with only 10-20% cpu usage.

The settings in the BIOS haven't been updated optimal for the new CPU, that likely caused the problem.
The settings won't change automatically, unless you force it by going into the BIOS or pulling the cmos battery.

The temps look normal for me, it is certainly not overheating

So finally it appears as if everything is running normal again. I played BO3 for a few hours and the CPU was around 65-68C for most of the game. It hit over 70 a handful of times, but very rarely.

Do you think it's safe for me to start reinstalling drivers and or hardware?

Specifically I was thinking of reinstalling the geforce app and all the other drivers that go with my graphics card. Also would reinstalling the sound card benefit me in anyway. Like I know GPU's take the load of graphics processing when you use them, so do sound cards help take some of the load off of the other components for sound processing?

Yes, start with the devices that plug into the mobo inside of the case.
Important do these ONE at a time.
And use the computer for awhile and if you got no BSOD then apply another device.
Then start plugging in the external devices (usb controller, printer etc., one by one, until they're all in.
If you should get BSOD's again, this way you can discover the device who is the culprit.

According to your Creative Soundcard i would put this one as the last one in your system, because there are no windows 8.1 compatible drivers for it.
