Solved Win 8.1 Crashes At Random Times

Hello there,

I just hope my computer doesn't crash while I am typing this. I have recently formatted and installed a fresh copy of windows 8.1 with the latest updates. I also installed all updates suggested by Sony Vaio update application so in this regard my computer is very updated including the latest BIOS firmware.

The problem is with the laptop crashing at random times whether plugged to or unplugged from the power. The unexpected shut down may take 30 seconds or 1 hour or even 5 hours to happen. I am not able to associate the shut down with anything wrong I am doing to the system. At first, I though it could be from the power setting but its very unlikely because the shut down occurs while I am actively using the machine.

I've used the diagnostic tool from the website and I took a look at the report but to tell you the truth I dont know what the heck is going on

please guys if you can help me solve it or point me to where the problem may hide , i'll truly appreciate it

Hi HipHoper,

Welcome to the 8forums.

Just for pre-caution, please make sure Ccleaner is properly configured for dumps.
If you are using a program like Ccleaner please stop using it while troubleshooting.
This because programs like Ccleaner remove dump files that are needed to troubleshoot.
Or configure Ccleaner to not remove dump files:

Please uninstall everything of Intel graphics using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from your manufacturer Sony. Be sure to ONLY install the drivers.

First of all I'd like to thank you axe0 for looking at my problem.

I have done exactly what you suggested. I also cleared the event viewer to have a better view on what could trigger this crash.

I am crossing my fingers, I will keep using my machine normally and I will update you with the result. Now while we are waiting, I found some strange warnings and errors in the event viewer. They could hint to the origin of the problem.

Please see if this has any thing to do with the crash.

I'll report the rest as they appear

That is something you shouldn't do, the event viewer is very important for troubleshooting, clearing it may remove important events.

I saved copies of the events before clearing them.

I am gonna leave the machine running and will report the status. So far no crashes but to make sure, I'll load the machine like I usually do for few hours and see what happens.

right after the post above, I ran an application called HW CPUID and then the laptop crashed down face first.

Here's some of the errors and warnings after this crash.

Code:
The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\NXP5442\2&daba3ff&2.
Code:
The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device HID\VID_0483&PID_91D1&Col01\6&1ee98eef&7&0000.
Code:
The previous system shutdown at 11:59:40 AM on ‎12/‎12/‎2015 was unexpected.
Code:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I also attached the new dump file...:huh:

WBflash is what i downloaded from Sony.. optimal settings? I believe so because i never played with the BIOS.

I'd like to leave it on its default state...

Please uninstall everything of Intel graphics using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from your manufacturer. Be sure to ONLY install the drivers using custom/advanced options.

Seeing that axeO mentioned that the igpdriver has failed.

Do you overclock your GPU or use monitoring software like CorsairLink2, Razer Game Booster, Real temps etc., because i found the WinRing0x64.sys driver from 26.7.2008 and these programs are known for BSOD sometimes.
