Solved BSOD while playing hardware intensive steam games

Have been experiencing BSOD regularly and occasionally RSOD. It is happening at least once each time I play intensive steam games, most recently Project Cars.
I am not overclocking.
First i though it must be the temp of the CPU or GPU, but the CPU is sitting at 45 deg and GPU is maxing out at 62 deg as i have an aggressive fan mapping to ensure that it was keeping cool.
Have stressed tested memory with memtest86+, CPU with Prime 95 and GPU with FurMark
Windows is up to date.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The level 0 cache of the CPU is causing the problems.
What tests from Prime95 have you performed?

Please make sure your drivers are updated.
Please uninstall ASUS software.
Please make sure your BIOS is set at default settings.

Thanks for the reply axe0.
Previously i had done a torture test - Blend.
Last night I set the bios to default, updated as many drivers as i could - only the motherboard seemed to be outdated. I have also uninstalled ASUS software.
I realised i had a typo in the first post - the CPU was sitting at 65 deg during the blend test.
Overnight i also did another Prime test this time a small FFT s. After running for over 8 hours it has not reported any errors. The temp of each core sat at 72 deg.
I will be able to see tonight if i can replicate the problem while gaming.

After 20 + hours of intensive gaming the problem has not reoccurred.
