BSOD driver corrupted expool Maya 2015-Mental Ray renderin

Hello.

I have had a nagging BSOD when rendering in Maya 2015 with my machine. The problem is much more abundant and repeatable every time when running a 'batch render' (rendering a batch or multiple number of frames as opposed to single frame rendering) I typically do not have issues when rendering only a single frame. However, it is very inefficient to render each frame one at a time. I need help and have researched a bit to no avail...

I have searched and found some threads with supposed solutions.
  • I have attempted a solution found from a forum that stated to disable NVIDIA Stream Streamer Service from Services.msc. This helped with Batch Rendering, but still caused a crash after 6 frame renders. 6 Frames is much better than previously ( typically 1 and then BSOD before), but the BSOD is still plaguing me.

I am at a loss at this point. Please assist! I have attached the requested .zip that includes the content stored after running the .exe found in the BSOD Posting Tutorial Thread.

Thank you,

Hi Stubtacularian,

Welcome to the 8forums.

The cause is the Nvidia Video driver.
I assume you have installed the most recent drivers so please try older drivers.

Thank you for the response Axe0.

I indeed am using the most updated WHQL Driver available from NVIDIA. I will revert to an older driver. I am going to look into the support at Autodesk Maya as well and see what they claim the best driver supports Maya for the GTX Titan Black SC.

I am currently at the office and wont be able to attempt this remedy until tonight. Thanks for the help thus far, stay tuned....

Hi again! So I have been busy with work, but also busy with attacking this BSOD issue. I did check the Autodesk Maya website for compatible drivers for this card, but upon download - the drivers were not even a supported driver for my card....

Regardless, @Axe0 + friends — I have done the following:
I reverted back through a few of the older NVIDIA Titan Black video drivers. but unfortunately to no avail so far.
  • 355.98 (Most Updated Driver ) - Causes BSOD @ after 5 frames rendered (first dmp log zip above)
  • 355.82 - Causes BSOD @ 5 frames rendered
  • 355.60 - Causes BSOD @ 5 frames rendered
  • 355.62 - (Current Driver installed) - Did NOT BSOD, However - The computer froze last night (screen freeze & hard locked after 7 frames and 75% of 8th rendered. I have attached the crash and dmp .zip below to see if this sheds any light on what happened with this driver.

View attachment 65608

I will give this current driver 355.62 one more pass at rendering the batch before continuing back to older drivers. I also wait eagerly to hear if there is anything else in this crash report that helps.

Thanks for the assistance! :thumb:

Although it is most likely that the driver caused the crash, it would be good to test the RAM

Hey again guys. A few updates, but still no full solution.

@Axe0.... I ran Memtest86+ for just over 24hours and returned multiple passes and 0 errors... Memory is good. I did see another BSOD when attempting the batch render on this current video driver. However, this time the rendering did not even make it through one full frame before crashing. I also received a different crash error this time...

"KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED"

This is a new one to me so far. I am still on the same driver as the previous report. I have been super busy with the kids and work! Good thing is that there are 6 more drivers from the NVIDIA archive to test that are paired for my particular video card (GTX Titan Black SC). I will get back to replacing and testing the drivers again now.

I figured that I would post an update to see if KMODE error meant anything to you. thanks!

Hey Axe0,
Sorry! I have attached the dump zip below. The only thing is that I can't remember if I had run ccleaner and cleaned up my files, but I don't think so. Thanks again.

Hey Axe0,

I had removed majority of the unnecessary ASUS drivers, but my USB3.0 ports on the front of my machine stopped working since they had no drivers. Is there an alternative solution to get those USB ports working without installing the ASUS drivers?

Duly noted about CCleaner as well. :)

You don't have to remove the software if you also remove the drivers.
Because you have an ASUS mobo, you need those drivers.

When removing software that does contain hardware drivers, you should be notified that the drivers will be removed too so you have a chance to cancel the removal procedure.
This said, the software that don't notify you, you can remove those.

Excellent, I will go through the Program list and uninstall all ASUS software that doesn't throw me a prompt tonight after work. Again, I will continue the video driver testing after that step is complete.

Thanks, stay tuned for more tomorrow.

Hey Axe0,
So - last night I went ahead and uninstalled all of the ASUS stuff (I believe). I also went to a new (older) NVIDIA Driver 353.30... I attempted to batch render again and still no luck. It did not even finish 1 frame before it screen froze. It dd not BSOD, but it hard froze and I had to force shutdown (hold the power button on the front IO panel).

I have attached the dmp log .zip below. Anything you see in this one?

Please visit Windows Update and install every update available, it may take a couple of times to get them all.

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble.

I just reminded myself on AMD, that it is possible to only install the drivers.
Are you able to remove the software of ASUS and only install the drivers (custom / advanced)

What program are you using for batch rendering?

I use Autodesk Maya 2015 for rendering my 3D scenes using the native plugin Mental Ray that is pre-installed with the suite. What is crazy is that rendering single frames using the render preview window (still mental ray) in Maya causes no issues at all - it is ONLY when batch rendering. So frustrating.

I will test the video card tonight when I get home with furmark. In regards to the custom installation of the ASUS stuff, I'm not too sure. The driver that I installed were from their support page for my motherboard ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition.

I will let you know later how the Furmark testing goes.

Before you render again, please open taskmanager and filter on either the hard drive or CPU.
When you start rendering, keep an eye on taskmanager to see what is happing in the background.
