    Another DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD

Having trouble tracking down which device driver is causing the BSOD on my sisters laptop. The most recent minidump file was the one created at the time of the the last BSOD which the event log shows it as "Event ID 1001" source: BugCheck. Appreciate the help, Thanks!

While analysing, what have you tried so far? Please describe in details if possible.

I have analysed about 50%, I expect the rest the same.
Most crashes are caused by the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.
    Code:
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for iaStorA.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for iaStorA.sys
Go to the manufacturers site and install the software again or update this driver.
If you have a cd for software and/or drivers from your manufacturer use it to update the software or driver.

Sorry for the late reply, it's been a busy weekend.

I checked Windows Update and that was 99% complete (nothing critical in the other 1%). ASUS Live Update showed nothing to update, ultimately I don't think that looks at device drivers.

Then I read your reply and started with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. I downloaded the latest version of this driver via the ASUS K56M support website and ran the setup. It gave me an error "This platform is not supported". So I uninstalled that driver and tried reinstalling it only to get another error "This computer does not meet system requirements". It still confuses me how a laptop with Intel Rapid Storage Technology pre-installed when bought does not meet system requirements. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology is currently not installed on my sisters laptop. It did however give me an error log. Attachment 64634

Next I looked at the info from the minidump, mostly "Probably caused by: pci.sys". Checked that I had the most up to date version of pci.sys.

After that I did some more research and came across another help thread.
[SOLVED] Bsod every shutdows / sleep / hibernate - Tech Support Forum

Once I read that I went back and verifyied pci.sys through the Windows Driver Verifier (Command Prompt). Unfortunately that didn't stop the BSODs.

I noticed in that post that pci.sys was hiding the real problem so I went back and double checked exactly what I had or hadn't tried so far, as you suggested earlier. I found a program, Driver Assist (Safe Bytes), that checks your device drivers against the latest versions of them. It showed a few drivers I had missed while updating my sisters laptop before I came to this forum. I fixed that and restarted. I realised that I hadn't run a System File Check scan. It found a few issues and fixed them, but left others that the system was still using. I deleted the Windows Prefetch files before restarting and so far so good. No BSODs.

It seems like the Realtek PCI Ethernet Controller was the source of the problem but I'm not 100% sure of that. Hopefully, the process I went through helps you through other BSOD errors. The thread I looked at was helpful and maybe it can help you too axe0 in the future (although all problems are different). Any further insights into the Intel Rapid Storage log would be appreciated.

Overall, it seems to be fixed however I'll give it a couple days before I mark this thread as Solved. Once again thanks for your help reading the minidump files.

I've learned that when pci.sys probably the cause is that you have to check this rule and search the background from the underlined part:
    FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: 0x9f_3_POWER_DOWN_iaStorA_IMAGE_pci.sys

So far I know it solved the problem when updating the driver of that part.

Thank you for the possible fix, its always welcome.

Unfortunately the BSODs haven't stopped just yet. I need to look at what options I have with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology and the iaStorA.sys driver. I know my sister's laptop is in AHCI mode but I still don't understand how this Intel technology was pre-installed when the technology doesn't meet system requirements. I'll check it out in a couple days when I have more time on my hands.

I suggest uninstalling the software or disable it, as far as I understood the software causes trouble.
I have it disabled in msconfig.
