As the title suggests, this is a new laptop (around 3 weeks old, Acer VN7-571G-70G9), and in the past couple of days I have experienced multiple BSOD. They *seem* to happen mainly while browsing the web, but not always. In an attempt to fix it, I ran the W8.1 refresh tool, in case something I had installed was causing issues, but this did not work. I have updated all of the drivers from the Acer website. I have been attempting to install all of the Windows Updates, but the BSODs have been making this rather difficult. I have run the windows memtest, with no issues. I ran the WDC diagnostic tool, which didn't find any issues.

The BSODs have had various different bccodes, unfortunately when I did the refresh I lost all of the previous minidumps, so I only have the most recent four dumps. They all seem to point to either ntoskrnl.dll or hal.dll as the culprit.

The laptop has been working fine for the past 3 weeks, only in the past few days have I been getting the BSODs. It sometimes seems like the BSODs are more common when I use Google Chrome, but that may just be my imagination.

I took a look at the drivers but there wasn't anything which seemed suspicious. I believe that this might be a hardware problem because one of the dump indicates that the system encountered a double fault i.e. a fault occurred when processing another fault.

Kindly run the below free hardware diagnostics and report back with the results -
Hardware Diagnostics

Till the time we are troubleshooting the system, kindly remove Mcafee using this **TOOL**.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Sorry for the *long* delay in replying to this. I ran all of those diagnostics and found nothing, so I took it back to the store, and they sent it off to ACER for repair, and I've finally got it back. It's not exactly clear what it was that was wrong with it (the tech notes just say system instability), but I believe they've replaced the motherboard. It would seem that everything is fixed now. Thanks for the help, for what it was worth.

Hi Azzaman ^_^,

No worries. Thanks for posting back. Diagnosing a damaged motherboard is one heck of a job. Glad to hear that the issue has been solved :)
