    Recurrent corruption of "utc.app.json"?!?

Windows Resource Protection frequently reports finding corrupt files, some of which it cannot repair.

I am able to fix the files using

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    followed by

    sfc /scannow

But the corruption returns frequently (every other day, it seems!), and on inspecting the CBS.log file, it is apparently always connected with "utc.app.json" of Microsoft-Windows-Unified-Telemetry-Client, Version = 6.3.9600.17807.

This is on Windows 8.1 x64.

So my question is: what causes this, and is there a way to avoid this frequent corruption?

    Thanks!

Its nothing to worry about. When Microsoft sent out update for DiagTracking (KB3022345), for a user to know when the time comes if his system is Windows 10 compatible, it causes a false positive in DISM and says the files are corrupt. If you have NOT run disk cleanup with Windows update cleanup checked, you could uninstall the update, but there is absolutely no reason to, as this has no effect on your system. Its just in a comparison in your WinSxS files there was a hash mismatch.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the information. It is true that I have not noticed any other problem with my system... So I won't worry about it. Thanks again.

    You'r welcome.
    Summary
This update enables the Diagnostics Tracking Service in Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This tracking service collects data about functional issues in Windows.

This update contains the following two manifests that are occasionally updated by the Diagnostic Tracking Service:
    • telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json
    • utc.app.json

The two files are marked as static files in the update. When an advanced user runs the System File Checker Tool (sfc.exe), the files are unintentionally flagged as corrupted. There is no impact or corruption on a device that is running this update, and this issue will be fixed in a later service update.

This was taken from DiagTracking Update (KB 3022345)
It's there to see if your PC and software is compatible for/with Windows 10. By the way I got my offer for the free upgrade today
You get a second Windows icon that shows up in the system tray.

Yes, I also received the Windows icon in the system tray yesterday. BTW, I like your desktop!

I reserved my copy of Windows 10. I probably won't install it immediately when available at the end of July. I generally like to wait until the OS is more mature. I only recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. I also like to tweak the OS and install quite a bit of software and applications. It takes me several weeks, working on the computer evenings and weekends, to get everything the way I want it.
