Are you using SLI? Nvidia or AMD?
I have a GTX590 and I had to update the video driver to 301.42 in order to fix the freezing. The Win8 version on nvidia's site is for the Win8 CP and not Win8 RP, so download the Win7 driver instead, 301.42.
A new nvidia RP driver is said to be being released next week.

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

I'm not real sure here, but I have to wonder if you're infected. Please try the free antimalware diagnostics here: Free Online AntiMalware Resources If none of the tests work in Win8, the bootable Rescue CD's are what you should run.

If that shows no malware, then try running SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt
Run it at least 3 times.

If that doesn't fix things, then I'd consider either a repair install of Win8, or a wipe and reinstall (starting over fresh).

If you have no disable C-States option in the BIOS (most laptops don't) you can workaround by creating a new Custom Power Plan and set - as an advanced option - in the Processor Power Management Tab the minimum processor rate at 50-70% ( i set myself at 50%) and the maximum processor rate at the very same value! (50%-50% or 70%-70%).

No crashes since then! Yes it takes from the processing power, but at least the system is stable.
As i noticed here and on other forums, this is an Intel only problem.

P.S. I joined 8Forums only to post this solution. If you are regulars on other forums, post it there also, it would help others too.
