BSOD while playing various games | 0x124_GenuineIntel_PCIE

Hi everyone

About a month ago I started to have these BSODS while playing various games. Well not really BSODS:
The system hangs, the screen sometimes turns black, and the audio stutters. At this point, there are only two options:
- Wait untill the system reboots
- Hard shut-down the system

Some observations:
  • When waiting untill the system reboots, it loads windows and restarts for Windows Update.
  • The (genuine steam) games that cause this error are:

  • GTA V: frequently
  • The forest: right from the beginning
  • The talos principle: I've played this game for weeks without troubles, but recently it also crashed once.
  • Mortal Kombat Komplete edition (9): only once, after a long playtime. This seems to be the most stable game for the moment.

  • Retro gaming doesn't seem to have any effect.
  • My event log is overwhelmed by DeviceSetupManager warnings

Things I've tried:
  • Updates
  • Reverted to an older version of my GPU driver
  • Disabled one screen while gaming
  • Stress test on the GPU (No problems, no excessive heat)
  • Stress test on the CPU (No problems, no excessive heat)
  • A combination of the two above
  • Format C:
  • Manually install updates / don't trust update utilities

I'm getting quite desperate since I don't really know how to debug hardware failures :/
Thanks in advance for everyone who is willing to help.

A surprise down error occurred on the PCI bus, although we need to find out what the actual device is that's failing.
It says port #2 on the PCI-E bus, what devides have you got installed in PCI / PCI-E slots?
The device disappeared off the PCI bus, it just disconnected from the port, meaning that device is failing.

I'm pretty confident it's your graphics card failing, but it's best to make sure.
Unplug any sound cards, TV cards, Network cards and keep playing games, if it still crashes, you've got a bad graphics card.
If not, you'll have to plug the cards in one at a time until you find the culprit.
RMA the card if it's under warranty.

Hi, first off all: thanks for the response. I actually have only one PCI-E card in my and I'm sure it's in slot 3 (the ports are probably enumerated starting from 0).

Do you think it would be adviseable to replug the graphics card into the slot and refit the power cable? Or would that be pointless.
