BSOD when using the internet or opening the browser

I keep getting BSOD with 'bad pool caller error' displayed when using the internet for different purposes. Sometimes it happens when I'm simply opening the browser. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all. I've tried all of the recommended fixes I could find - updating the drivers, using system restore, using different browsers - but it hasn't fixed the problem. I've also read through a lot of the threads with similar issues, but they always have solutions that don't apply to my computer. The main problem is that I have no idea what the dump files mean, so I can't figure out what is causing the problem. I would very much appreciate some help!

Ok, just checking...
McAfee firewall is causing you troubles, it could be something else interfering with packet filtering engine but for troubleshooting purposes the simple way is to replace it with another firewall or use built in Windows firewall and see how things go.

Okay, I see. Would you recommend any particular firewall programs? I don't particularly like the idea of only using the Windows firewall, I have a few friends who've had some real issues with it.

As a side note: I've seen in some other forums that similar issues have arisen because when updating from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, their network drivers became incompatible with the system. This was solved by reverting the network drivers to the old versions. There wasn't any explanation of how they figured this out though, or any explanation of how to revert to the old drivers, so I wouldn't even begin to know how to go about troubleshooting this. Is there any evidence in the dump files that suggest this may be the problem? I updated to Windows 8.1 a little while ago, and I did get a couple of BSODs at the time, but only the first couple of times I switched on my machine after the update. I'm just looking for your advice on other possibilities, in case changing my firewall program doesn't work.

Well If you use Windows firewall tru control panel, then yes, you'll have issues, such as losing control over firewall or limited functionality.
Use it tru group policy (or powershell) instead and spend few days learning "hidden" features, and gather few additional troubleshooting tools and you'll have powerful firewall.
Otherwise get comodo firewall, easy to use and it will fulfill most of you expectations. :)

This is obvious, if you just upgrade (or install) Windows and skip other steps that usually follow Windows installation, then yes, what else could you expect?
downloading original drivers for your devices and operating system if first thing you do...
visit manufacturers website of your laptop/PC and download original stuff for your devices and OS.
edit:
do not use driver download programs and 3rd party websites, do it manually.
