Hello,

While surfing along using Chrome I receive a BSOD error of ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY (VBoxDrv.sys).

I suspect I have been having other BSOD issues since I can sometimes hear my computer speakers pop whenever my computer restarts but I missed the error message. I have uploaded my log. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

GT

I had already removed VMWare, I removed VBox and tested my RAM modules one at a time for at least 7 passes each. The first one I tested had an error on pass 4, test 8. The other three RAM modules tested out fine. I am currently running with just the three RAM modules that tested with no errors.

I will let the system run for a bit and if all goes well I will come back and mark this as solved in a few days. Thanks for the assist.

I woke this morning to find my computer had rebooted overnight at 3:21 AM. I checked the event log and it says that "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck." I have attached a new log collector file.

I forgot to mention in my last post that I did upgrade my nVidia drivers.

Regards,

GT

Update drivers in red and test your RAM again. There could be more damaged RAM sticks or even the slot may be broken, so be thorough and test out various combinations.

I ran the memory test on each memory stick in each slot and let it go 20 passes each without an error so it looks like my problem is probably not a memory problem. I am already running the latest drivers for my motherboard but they are several years old and it appears that ASUS will not be updating them further. I tried installing Linux Mint so I can dual boot between it and Windows 8 and I am seeing some freezing and lockup problems there are well. This makes me believe that this is a hardware problem. I am thinking the video card or motherboard. I'll try swapping out the video card first and see what happens.

Nice troubleshooting steps. I agree with you on this. If the freezing occurs even under Linux it's most probably a HW issue.
