I'm using a DELL XPS 127 , it had 8.1

About a week ago, noticed that my wireless Keyboard and mouse were acting up. Media Controls went first. It's a new-ish Logitech keyboard. Tried removing the original keyboard (coffee ruined it) using Change PC settings and each time got a BAD_POOL_CALLER.

Swapped out for a USB keyboard and problem seemed to go away.
Starting acting up within a day (jumpy cursor, function keys not working) so I backed up my files and noted which applications would have to be reinstalled (tax software).

Went to the Recovery section and went through process of Refresh your PC.
Seemed fine at first. I was using installing Windows Updates in prep for installing 8.1 from the Store.
Before I could get to 8.1, I got a CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

I booted with my reinstall disk and got BSOD MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and an auto restart.

Auto restart told me that "Automatic repair couldn't repair your PC".
I had the option to use my reinstall and selected it.
Eventually got back to a Windows 8 Start screen with tiles.
Clicked on some tiles and it froze. ctl-alt-del not even working

I need help. I can't get to the point of downloading the exe to abstract a log file to show you.

---------------------------- update : I was able to generate the dump file --------------------
What has occurred since original post
I manually turned off the computer and then booted with Reinstall disk.
Reboot #1
While the computer was just doing nothing, it went to
KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_error.

Reboot with Reinstall #2
It did not restart itself, so I again turned it off and rebooted
Came to START screen and wouldn't open content, the tile would flip open and closed
Then PAGE_FAULT_NONPAGED_AREA and this time it restarted itself.

Reboot with Reinstall #3
Came back up to Start screen and I was able to send an email, use IE, logged into this forum and generate a dump file.
MAPS shows real content.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me.
Start with these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

No memory dumps or WER report logs in the uploaded reports. If you're using a disk cleaner such as CCleaner, please stop while we're troubleshooting.

Let us know the results of the diagnostics and we'll move on from there.

Only 40 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 130 to 180 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Your UEFI/BIOS dates from 2012. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the UEFI/BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. If possible, use the "inside Windows" flash mechanism (if your OEM provides one) - that is much more forgiving than the traditional (floppy drive) flash method.

Windows has problems with the Digital Signature on the driver for your Kingston device (In Device Manager) That's the code 52 error below::
KINGSTON WPDBUSENUMROOT\UMB\2&37C186B&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_KINGSTON&PROD_DATATRAVELER_2.0&REV_PMAP#001CC0EC346CED31671B009F&0# 52
Please remove the Kingston device from your system while we're troubleshooting. If you'd like assistance with fixing this device's problems, please post over in the hardware forums.

I looked at this answer several times and went OMG this is above my pay grade of understanding. I had noticed last week that the only Windows Updates that were being applied were to Defender and another component (can't recall specifically). I'm thinking I should take this to a PC fix shop and let them work it out.

Thank you so much. If and when I get my Dell up and running again, I'll be back to the Hardware boards for the Kingston fix.

Thank you. I believe I will be back for help. Windows 8.1 is back up and running, but I'm still seeing odd bits here and there. I won't have the time until this weekend to poke around and make sure stuff looks reasonably good before reinstalling outside programs. (Taxes!) I think my first challenge will be figuring out how to update Dell BIOS. I haven't looked seriously since the problem with Windows occurred.
And I'm still applying Windows updates.

BIOS/UEFI should be easily done from the OEM support pages.
Should be a quick download, then open it and let it run (rebooting when it tells you to)
Good luck!

So I found the Dell BIOS and other Driver updates. I had been looking for them using a Dell Support Program on my desktop and everytime I checked update drivers, I got an error message. I had been going to Dell's website and using the click that auto checks for the service tag. It was error-ing. But success finally when I entered the service tag on my own. I also have set up a subscription to be alerted when there are new drivers.

Today I will be installing my local programs and restoring files, but that seems trivial after having the BSOD. I was surprised by how often I had to apply Windows Updates once I got 8.1 reinstalled.

I'm going to marked this solved and would like to express my appreciation for your support. I've been a PC owner for a long time and had never encountered something as severe as this.

yesterday at work we found that even some OEM's support tool don't let you know even if drivers have updates. This particular system (not a Dell) had a BIOS update that showed on the website, but not in the OEM's tool.

When having problems it's always best (IMO) to manually check for updates.

Good luck!
