Multiple/Frequent BSODs - Different error codes reported

    Hi there,

I'm really hoping that someone will be able to help with my ongoing BSOD issues - I'm almost at my wits end, trying to pinpoint the cause.

I seem to have been experiencing infrequent BSODs for months now (perhaps 1 BSOD every few weeks, then the PC would be stable, always on for weeks, if not months), but in the last few weeks they've increased massively in frequency to multiple times per day, and mostly persist within a few minutes of restarting/logging in, although today one occurred even before the Windows login screen appeared. After multiple attempts, the system usually stablises and will remain functional for hours to days, but then I'll come to log in again, and the system has rebooted after suffering another BSOD while I was away from home.

    I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro, i5-3470 @ 3.2Ghz (not overclocked) with 6GB RAM.

Using Bluescreen View, most of the crashes report ntoskrnl.exe+1509a0, but more recently I'm seeing various errors/drivers reported, including:

    ntoskrnl.exe+1509a0
    ACPI.sys+6bce49a0
    cmdguard.sys+1547f
    cmdguard.sys+2c573
    ACPI.sys
    videoprt.sys
    cmdguard.sys
    win32k.sys

    And errors such as:

Driver Page Fault in Freed Special Pool
    System Service Exception
    Special Pool Detected Memory Corruption
    K Mode Exception Not Handled
    IRQL Not Less or Equal

I've updated my system drivers, removed Comodo (which I read elsewhere could be causing issues), run and re-run CCleaner, Malwarebytes and AVG (no issues reported by the latter two). I've run Memtest86 on the pair of RAM sticks and no issues reported there either.

I do have an issue with one of the internal 2x2TB Samsung HDDs that I use for data storage, which is failing the SDST and Long Generic Seagate Drive Tools tests, so I'll swap that out as soon as I get chance (I'm living in Kuwait, and finding parts isn't quite as easy as it was back home in the UK).

Booting in Safe Mode, as you'd expect, seems to eliminate the issue, and the system runs stable.

I've also been experiencing a couple of other problems, including certain networked devices (HP Microserver, Windows 7 Media PC) disappearing from the visible network in this Win 8.1 Pro build. The machines are still there, and I can connect to them by IP, but this problem machine doesn't seem to recognise that they're there automatically. Not sure if that could be related to the BSOD issues, but thought it would be worth mentioning.

I've posted my DM Log Collector files; I foolishly cleaned a bulk of files when I ran CCleaner earlier today, but I've also posted the DM Log files from a session in Safe Mode, which appears to have collected more Mini Dump files. Not sure how relevant they are, but just in case they're helpful.

Any help in identifying the root cause, or any further advice to help narrow down the offending hardware/driver, would be greatly appreciated. Please just let me know if I need to confirm any further details.

    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

Thanks for your quick reply, Softwaremaniac - much appreciated. I've set Memtest off on one stick this morning, and will test the other overnight tonight. I'll also make the changes you suggested, this evening, and post back with any change in behaviour.

    Morning, Softwaremaniac.

OK, so I've done as suggested and - touch wood - the system appears to be completely stable at the time of writing. I'll continue to monitor, add my start-up items back in one by one to see if I can identify the culprit! Just to confirm:

    • Hosts file was restored back to default
    • All startup items were disabled (or uninstalled in the case of Teamviewer/LogMeIn/SlimDrivers)
      • At this point it appeared that the crashes had been resolved, but I continued ...

    • Memtest86+ results: Stick 1 (2GB 46 passes) No errors, Stick 2 (4GB 9 passes) No errors
    • AVG uninstalled (though in fairness, I only installed it 2 days ago so I don't think it was the root cause)
    • Cyberlink uninstalled
    • All suggested drivers updated/removed

I've left my system running today while I'm at work, so hopefully I'll be able to offer a positive update and close the thread when I get home this evening.

Thanks again for your prompt help and advice,
    Brian

    Morning!

Well, the system is definitely more stable than it was previously, but I had another 2 BSODs in the last 24 hours (dump files attached).

Both BSODs referenced ntfs.sys and ntoskrnl.exe+1509a0.

I've not yet re-enabled any startup items, but I did manually restart sabnzb and nzbdrone/sonarr and reinstall the latest version of Logmein. I'll remove that again tonight and see if it improves the situation (I have Logmein installed on another PC, and it's never given me any issues on that one).

Do the dump files suggest anything else suspicious?

    Thanks in advance! Attachment 59030

Run SFC and remove that software plus update Intel drivers.

Will run SFC and remove Logmein this evening. Re: the Intel drivers - I already updated them the other evening; can you see specific drivers that are out of date that I've missed?

    Thanks

Intel(R) Watchdog Timer Driver and Intel One Boot Flash Utility Driver. (Feel free to uninstall the latter).
