BSOD when Playing Second life?, WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

as it says in the title, it generally happens if i have had the game up for more than a few hours. it may not be secondlife that causes it, but my suspicion is on it, as it never happens when playing anything else. whenever i have looked at the dump files with WhoCrashed it points to ntoskrnl.exe as the possible culprit

Hi theroadrun & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes -

    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)
A fatal hardware error has occurred. Parameter 1 identifies the type of error source that reported the error. Parameter 2 holds the address of the WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure that describes the error condition.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 0000000000000000, Machine Check Exception
    Arg2: ffffe0010ab43028, Address of the WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure.
    Arg3: 00000000bf800000, High order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.
    Arg4: 0000000000000124, Low order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.

So, according to the analysis, it seems that the L0 Cache of the Processor is having problems. The system crashed because it failed to write the data to the L0 Cache of the processor. I checked the other dump files and the error is consistent which means that there is a high possibility of a Hardware problem.

I would suggest you to start with the Hardware Diagnostics over **HERE** and report back the results
Also report back with the temperatures.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

    Regards,
    Pranav

I seem to be having problems booting into the memdiag bootable test, when i restart the system it does not show up as an option on the boot menu, but upon popping a disk with a live client of Linux mint it does show up, perhaps the system does not recognize the boot diagnosis disk as bootable media? i will try to solve this on my own, and will edit this post if i manage to solve it.

EDIT: i just remembered as this is an HP computer, it has HP PC Hardware Diagnostics would that be satisfactory to test the hardware?

EDIT2: also just ocured to me, i can say that the CPU tend to max out at about 60/61 degrees C when playing SL but i will keep an eye on it.

Please check (and adjust if necessary) your boot device priority, so that your system would be able to boot up from a disc. These tests that blueelvis recommended are more reliable in my opinion. You could also try running Memtest86+ from a USB device...

i checked the boot priority, and set CD/USB to the top of the level, yet when i boot it up it goes into GRUB 2 (i dual boot Linux with windows but windows is my priority system and i am too lazy to remove linux) and even when i go into the boot menu to select what to boot from, it will not show up there. yet if i swap out the memtest disk for the linux disk that disk will show up as an option perhaps its due to UEFI?

EDIT: or maybe i screwed up burning the iso image to a disk... although not sure how

EDIT2: i ended up getting it to work by enabling Legacy boot support

I knew that it was some messed up BIOS settings. Go ahead and test it now.

i ran the memory test all night, and it succeded 5 times out of 5 without a single fail. (i fell asleep) which makes me suspicous it may simply be an overheating problem. as i had noticed yesterday after having played second life for many hours. that my cpu temp spiked at one point to 70 degrees, and my Gpu had spiked to 80

    Hi theroadrun ^_^,

What was the result of the Prime95 test? What was the temperature the system reached when you were running the Prime95?

Second Life is the game where you have paranormal powers like telekinesis etc, right?
Are you having the problems when playing other games or doing some other stuff as well?

immediately upon starting up prime95, the cpu went to 90 degrees celcius, and even after the fan kicked in, it continued to exceed 85 degrees i am going to not continue running it, unless you think its safe to let some of the cores hover over 85 degrees, also second life is a virtual world type game, its a terror for graphics cards because nothing can be optimized due to practically everything being user generated. also i have never witnessed it happening on any other game. i have always had second life up when i blue screened. although it isnt always in focus

    Hi Theroadrun ^_^,

Gee. It seems like I confused with some other game my friends used to play :|

No, it is not safe to let the cores running at that temperature. Prime95 is a test for checking the errors and if temperatures are too high. Could you do one thing? Check the temperature while the game is running i.e. Play the game for like 20-25 minutes while running the Temperature Monitor (I use CoreTemp) and check out the temperatures and report back.

A simple Google Search reveals that many people are experiencing the Blue Screen with this game -
    https://www.google.co.in/search?q=se...fe+blue+screen

See if you can aim a table fan directly at the CPU and then try playing the game and see if it still crashes or not. If it still causes Blue Screen, I think it would be better if you could contact the developers of the game because frankly speaking, I won't be able to help you much if it is a problem with the game

Let me know how it goes ^_^
