Random restarts, never seen BSOD, Kernel Power 41

    Hi all,

I have a newly built computer (custom build), which has been plaguing me for awhile now. Built it, and did not seem to have issues for a few days, but within the first week, started suffering from two main issues. The first to surface was that when I told it to shutdown, it would shutdown and then within 5 seconds reboot. I could deal with that, but soon after it started randomly shutting down.

When I say random, I truly mean it. I can be doing anything, after any length of time, from 1 minute after startup to about 4 hours. It happens under load, as well as completely idle. I've tried many of the suggestions here, so I'll provide a list of what I have already done:

    1. Shut down Fastboot
    2. Removed power options from any user interface device stating that the device could turn on power
    3. Ran memtest86+ - passed once
    4. Replaced PSU
    5. Removed all Hard Drives save the OS SSD. Completely reinstalled windows on SSD, and only installed the graphics driver and mobo drivers. Still occurring.
    6. Run sfc /scannow - did not detect any issues.
    7. used DISM restorehealth - says it fixes an issue with the component store. (Did this both before and after os reinstall)

I have pretty much removed heat as a suspicion - I've sat with hW monitor going and watched every temp sit between 27-33 C - and it still shuts down.

    Computer Stats:
    Windows 8.1
    Asus Strix Gefore 970
    8gb Crucial Sport 2400 DDR4 (1 stick)
    MSI x99 SLI Plus Mobo
    Seasonic 850w PSU
    h100i Water cooler
    Samsung 250gb SSD

I will attempt to upload my logs using my desktop, if I can stay on for long enough.

Also check if you have everything configured correctly. Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD - Windows 7 Help Forums I need minidump file.

    Updates:

Ran MemTest86+ for 8 passes, it passed fine.

I'm having issues supplying a memory dump. I have it set correctly to dump, but it never does so when the shutdown occurs. Seems like the shutdown is so fast that it skips that step. That's why I originally thought it might be power related and replaced the PSU, but the problem still has been occurring.

I did download WinCrashReader (I think that's the name), and used that to force a crash - in that instance, it did record the memory dump, so my suspicion is that there is something that is stopping the memory dump process from occurring.

    OK, let's try this:
Scan with MBAM, ensure you have at least 25% free space available, check your Windows folder for memory.dmp file. If you can see it, please upload it to a filesharing service and then post a link here. Also run SFC scan: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - Windows 7 Help Forums

Will do on MBAM, and get back you to tonight.

Definitely have more than 25% available - disk has about 200gb of 250gb empty (fresh install).

Windows folder did not have the dump in any of the crashes I experienced yesterday, save for the one I initiated, but I'll continue to look.

I'll do SFC scan, and can run DISM again if that might be useful.

I'll get back to you tonight with the results, thanks for the help!

    Updates:

    MBAM Came back clean
    Ran Scannow - Clean
    Ran DISM CheckHealth - Clean
    Ran DISM ScanHealth - Clean
Ran DISM Restorehealth - Claimed that it fixed corruption.

System seems to be a bit more stable since two days ago when I:
Changed SATA cable going to my SSD
"Optimized" the SSD using Samsung Magician - I've read a couple of reports that state that Windows 8.1 doesn't auto-optimize an SSD like Win 8 did, and that this can cause similar issues to what I've been having.

Not sure yet if it's actually stable however - I need to be able to run it for a bit longer to see.

Also of note - why the random crashes seem to have either slowed or stopped (not counting it out yet, only about an hour/hour and a half of testing), it still reboots upon shutdown... so that problem may be unrelated?

I don't get the last part. Your system restarts when you shutdown?
