    Freezing, Black Screens, and BSODs

Hello. I've been having issues with my self-built PC for a very long time - that being freezing and black screens occurring, mostly when playing games. When they occur, the pressing buttons on they keyboard, including modifiers like Num-lock have no effect. The indicators on the keyboard don’t change. Sometimes, the sounds being played will loop. These also don’t appear in the Event Log.

The reason it’s taken me so long to post about this is that these issues are rare, and occur perhaps once every few days. This makes troubleshooting very time consuming. As I also played around with overclocking my system, I’ve always thought that was the cause, adjusted some settings, and went back to using my PC. That or the infamous 290X memory issue. Only I recently RMAed my card because it wasn’t producing any video output. The issue occurs while using the replacement card too.

Something new happened today – I got a 0x7c BSOD, with the parameter 0x8. This happened while I was afk, and running Folding@Home. Microsoft’s website suggests that this is likely caused by a hardware issue, the likely culprit being the RAM. Up till now, I’ve only 0x124 BSODs, which seem to be related to instability from overclocking.
In my troubleshooting steps, I reset all my settings to stock – stock CPU and GPU speeds, and enabled the XMP profile for my RAM. Later that day, my PC froze at the F@H screensaver. With the same settings, the system will happily pass MemTest86 V6.

This is all from a system that will gladly run Aida64’s stress test overnight while overclocked. Admittedly, Haswell’s memory dividers means that the running the RAM at XMP speeds results in instability while at high CPU clocks.

I’m not sure if this is related, but I also see weird artifacting in Firefox from time to time. This is extremely rare, and happens on a monthly basis. I’ve attached an image of what this looks like.

Your report is incomplete. There is no msinfo32.nfo file, systeminfo.txt is empty just as the rest of the txt files. Your hosts file has been modified.
Uninstall GPUZ, Gigabyte bloatware, (leave the Killer Network for now). Disable Nvidia streaming service withing services. msc. Update your Intel HD driver. Update GPU drivers. Monitor your PC temperatures. Clean your PC from dust if you haven't already.

EDIT: I can now see that you have both parts of nvidia and of AMD drivers present. Please remove them both completely and install AMD Omega driver.

    Thanks for the fast reply!

I have the Intel integrated graphics disabled in the BIOS, so I went ahead and removed the Intel drivers.

I had run the uninstaller for the Nvidia drivers when I installed my AMD graphics card. Strange that there's still leftover drivers. I've uninstalled that and the Intel graphics from the hidden devices in Device Manager.

I've uninstalled GPU-Z and the Gigabyte utilities. I couldn't find anything about the Nvidia streaming service in services.msc, but I have uninstalled Nvidia Grid in case that's where it was from.

I'm running the latest 14.12 AMD drivers. My PC is clean and thermal performance under load is great - 55ฐC on the CPU, and 80ฐC on the GPU.

I'm not sure why there's lots of blank text files in my report. I'm using the SF Debug tool from the pinned thread as per the instructions. Do I need to do something else for Windows 8?

Hopefully these changes will have helped, though I won't be able to tell until later. I'll update this thread with my results!

Several minidumps indicate a problem with your CPU. Test it with a Blend test in Prime95 please. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

Those BSOD's occurred while I was experimenting with overclocking my CPU - something to be expected.

I've since restored the stock settings for my CPU, so that shouldn't be an issue. Do you want to me to run Prime95 regardless?

oh, OK then, not for now. If BSODs with this code recur, I will ask you to do that.

I decided to revisit the memory, in case that was the issue. Guess what - the same exact memory address failed 5 out of 20 MemTest runs.

I've attached a screenshot of the report here:

Seems like this could very much be an issue with the RAM?

I've RMA'ed my memory. Sadly, the replacement could take up to 28 days to arrive. Lets hope the replacement fixes this issue!
