Freezing, Black Screens, and BSODs

I borrowed some RAM from a friend to use while I'm waiting for mine.

I had a few games freeze while I was playing them, though I could alt-tab out to the desktop and continue using my PC. Not sure if this is related to the other issues I've been having.

I've had another black screen occur after I left my computer on and came back about 10 minutes later. Strangely, I found that if I wait long enough, pressing buttons like Num lock on my keyboard will toggle Num lock as expected, and I can move my mouse around.

I plan to run some more Memtest on this RAM, to see if there's an issue with my CPU or motherboard. In the mean time, is there anything else I can try?

Check temperatures while playing games. Is your PC clean of dust? Is your GPU powerful enough to run those games?

Yep, my PC is free of dust, and temperatures are well within spec. And my R9 290X is easily enough to run the game I was playing, Nosgoth.

I've run Prime95 for over 24 hours without any problems. Should I keep it running?

No. Monitor your PC for crashes now.

I've just had another black screen occur when I left my PC running F@h for about an hour. This time, it was completely frozen again, so pressing Num lock did nothing.

That happens with AMD GPU's. I have one myself (7950) and I'm experiencing these.

I've continued trying to change things to troubleshoot the issue.

Uninstalling Speedfan, and as a result, letting everything run on auto fan speeds increases the frequency of the black screens.

When these black screens occur, the speed of the graphics card fan changes dramatically, either increasing or decreasing from what it was running at.

I've revisited the cause of the issue being the graphics card. To see if the issue was the 290X black screening problem, I installed MSI Afterburner, and added a +25 mV offset the the GPU core voltage. When running F@H, the black screen happened again, only this time Windows apparently had BSOD to go along with that. Unsurprisingly, the 0x116 indicates some problem with the video card driver.

I'll keep trying things, and maybe load test with something other than F@H, to see if F@H is the cause of the issue.

The quickest test would be to get a nVidia card and try it. Is that a possibility for you? Bear in mind that AMD's drivers would have to be completely removed.
