Solved BSOD after Bios update, and fresh install of Windows 8

Hi,

This is my 1st BSOD after I did a Bios update on my laptop, followed by a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro. It occurred during my installation of drivers. The BSOD Error message was: Driver Power State Failure. The dump file is attached if anyone can help take a look at it, as its got me worried. The main reason I did a bios update was due to the multiple BSOD I had on my previous Bios.

I did try to open up the Dump file, but have no idea on how to read it. However it did mention the file name ntoskrnl.exe. From online searches, the file is related to my kernel? Does this means I installed the Bios wrongly?

If it matters, during Bios installation, I had to update the EC 1st followed by Bios update which had 2 executable files to run.

Note:
-Bios updated myself, obtained form laptop manufacturer

Edit: Uploaded Files as according to posting instructions. (Running the SF Debug Tool)

If it's I would like to learn how to read these files to solve problems myself if possible. I used WinDbg to open the dumb file, but got lost after that. Possibly tell my how you found the cause of the problem?

Hello,

Thank you for you're reply.
I have installed the required drives and updated my laptop as listed above. Hoverer, multiple of the links to drivers listed, do not have any download or actual drivers to download, but i have searched online and tried to installed them either way. However recently i faced another BSOD, or should i say a few.

Also, i have a internet connectivity problem. I constantly require to reset my network adapter to use my internet. My wifi works but would suddenly stop. The internet icon however does not show disconnected or limited access but i wont be able to surf at all. Once i click troubleshoot problems, it would reset the network driver, and the internet works back to normal. This could continue in cycles through my use

Could you please find the cause of my issues?

Hi, sorry i think i jumped to conclusion too quick. My laptop has faced 2 BSOD soon after marking this thread as resolved. This was 1-2 weeks ago. The BSOD is DPC watchdog violation. Both BSOD happened during gaming. The game would lagg badly amd finally BSOD. Many times when i play games it hard lagg and the games stop responding wihtout BSODs. I have attached the files, also i just started running the driver verification, will update after 24 hours (Driver verification need to run for 24hrs right?)

Also, regarding the device: Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0, i have enable it aand updated as requested (there was no updated for it), can i disable it as its the Bluetooth function in my laptop and i rarely use it.

Your GPU driver appears to have caused these crashes, please try another version from your laptop's manufacturer's site.

Hi, When i install the nvidia driver obtained form the sager website i get BSOD driver verifier detected violation when i try to restart. So after disabling the verifier, i am able to start my computer. However, when i play games i experience extreme lag, and found the cause of the issue being that the game was using the intergrated graphics (HD 4000) and not the gtx 680m. However even when i choose to start he game with the game with the gtx 680m, it still starts with the HD4000. I know this because in my notification bar it tell me the Nvidia gpu activity.

Is there a solution to this?

Note, i was also told that the driver was old and was asked to update in Geforce Experience, after updating, when i play games, the same issue returned, BSOD DPC_watchdog violation.

Attached is the zip file, inside the latest BSOD log is the DPC_watchdog violation, after that is 3 BSOD driver verifier detected violation.

I would suggest you to uninstall the currently installed nVidia Driver using the Display Driver Tool from this **LINK**. Once it has removed the drivers, reinstall the latest drivers from the nVidia Website and see if the crashes persist or not.

Hi, ok, i actually just did a fresh install using the Display Driver Uninstaller and installed the Nvidia Driver from the Sager Website, and now most of my games wont launch, some will launch and would stop responding immediately, other will appear in the task manger when launch but disappear soon after.

I did this before i saw yore reply, and will now try to do as you said. Will update soon. Just wanted to inform you. Thx

After following your instruction and doing a clean install on the latest drivers, i no longer experience BSOD (So far), however when i play games now, they stop responding followed by the audio crackling.

I have found the source of this to be due to the display driver not responding and recovering. This happens just before the application hangs. On the Event Viewer it is listed as: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered. This is seen to happen all the time (Havnt one I, started playing a game, and stoped before it hang). Is there a solution for this?

Ok, i have installed the registry files as requested, however there is no difference, the display driver still stops responding during mid game-play, resulting in the game hanging.

I have also started to try and collect data on my GPU before the driver stops responding with HWMonitor, in hopes this might helps. Below are the info of 2 crashes that i managed to collect data about.

1st crash:
Game: Titanfall
Playtime B4 Crash: <30 min
GPU Temp graph: Link
GPU Utilization graph: Link

2nd crash:
Game: NFS Rivals
Playtime 1 hour
GPU Temp graph: Link
GPU Utilization graph: Link

I doubt the temps are the cause of the driver stopping to respond, as the second crash happens at not very high temperatures of 77 degrees.

As this is a laptop, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to try using their drivers. Maybe it will help.
