Driver power state faillure

My laptop is only about 4 month old (HP Notebook, serial #5CD4340HSP), but yesterday it quit twice with the message about a driver power state failure and had to restart. It is my second computer that I use only about once a week, so it's not like I have overused it already and don't even have many programs on it.

I'm not sure what to do about this problem. I did follow the instructions and have run the SF debug tool. File is attached.

So, the driver causing the IRP blockage is the CDROM.sys which is the SCSI CD ROM Driver. But, since this is a part of Windows Operating System, chance of it being at fault is extremely less. Let's take a look at the 3rd party drivers present on your system -

MBI.sys - this driver hasn't been added to the DRT as of this run. Please search Google/Bing for the driver if additional information is needed.

Kindly perform the below steps -

  1. Please remove "CDRTools/ElbyCDIO/DVD Region Killer/VirtualCloneDrive (elby CloneDVD™ 2)/AnyDVD" since the drivers highlighted in RED are extremely out-dated and are probably the reason we are seeing CDROM.sys in the IRP Blockage.
  2. It appears that you are using two Antivirus Solutions. It is strongly recommended to use only one because having multiple security suites is bound to cause conflicts. I would suggest you to uninstall both Avast & McaFee using this **TOOL** & **TOOL** respectively. Once they are cleaned, feel free to install any security suite (Only one).

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Thanks for the reply. I may have messed up a bit. I blame it on my being sick for the last couple of days. Anyway, I neglected to use the tool you kindly provided a link for to remove Avast. I used the uninstall feature in Windows. I'm also a bit reluctant to uninstall McAfee since it came on the computer and I don't know that I'll be able to reinstall it. I don't have the code for it.

I did remove the Clone DVD. At least I think I did. I could find only one Clone DVD and I did uninstall it. I'm afraid I didn't see any CDRTools, though, so I hope I uninstalled the right thing. I'm not usually this ditzy - like I said, I blame it on my being sick.

I don't know if my laptop will work properly now or not. I was using it before for a while and nothing happened. I probably won't know until next Monday which is the day it gets the longest workout.

Is it essential to remove McAfee? Should I reinstall Avast and then use the uninstaller tool you recommended?

Thanks again. (I'll be more lucid soon. I promise.)
