Solved KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED When Shutting Down Computer

Greetings,

I've been getting various BSODs (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED mostly) on my Windows 8.1 machine for around 2 months now. They always occur while my PC is shutting down, but not on each shutdown. It's not that big of a problem for me except that I always have to shut it down manually by holding the Power button, and I don't think that's healthy for my computer.

I've updated all of my drivers through various software, even reinstalled my Windows 8.1 but the problem persists. Recently I installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows installation and when I shut down from Ubuntu, it shuts down normally.

I've tried running WinDbg a couple of times and it points to ntkrpamp.exe but I have no idea what that is.

I'd be really grateful to anyone who could help me in this struggle of mine.

Hello again,

Thank you softwaremaniacfor for the quick reply.

I uninstalled DAEMON TOOLS and Diskeeper but didn't find any updates for the other 2 drivers. Then I ran Driver Verifier and at first could not boot into Windows because of - DRIVER_VERIFIER_IOMANAGER_VIOLATION. Then I got into Safe Mode and I successfully logged into Windows. Then I decided to try to log in normally again and this time got DRIVER_VERIFIER_IOMANAGER_VIOLATION(ASACPI.sys)

So I dug in deeper and found a version of the Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility from 2009 (previous was from 2004) which was for windows 7, but I managed to install it.

I ran Driver Verifier again and this time I got into Windows normally but after a while I got a new BSOD. Don't remember what it was - hope it's in the archive. Restarted, turned off Driver Verifier but did not restart automatically and before I restarted manually I got a second BSOD - I believe it was aswsp.sys

What should I do next? Can you send me valid links with updates to the faulty drivers?

I tried the included links but I can't find drivers compatible with my system.

As for Avast - I've been using it for quite a lot of time and I'm really satisfied with it. Isn't there a way to fix the issue and still keep it? If not - can you suggest a good replacement?

We'll take care of the drivers. Let's first see if the removal of Avast solves the problem. I would recommend Comodo Internet Security as it is very good, but it's a pain if you are not an advanced computer user. You could try Panda Cloud AV, but I've seen it cause issues as well (rarer than Avast). For now, I would recommend removing Avast to see if we are making any progress.

I've removed it in Safe Mode as it was recommended. Should I run Driver Verifier again?

No, you should use your PC normally. Disable it by running the verifier /reset command. Then, monitor your PC for further crashes.

I guess it was Avast that was causing the crashes. I've installed Comodo and everything is running normally.
