Hey there.
So, just like any normal day I started my laptop... Approximately after an hour playing Hearthstone the screen suddenly froze. Then this yellow triangle appeared in the left corner of the screen saying "Display driver stopped working and has successfully recovered."
And then the system came up with a BSOD with a video_tdr_failure.

I do NOT have overclocked my GPU, have the latest drivers, tried a few registry repairing softwares, but non of them helped...

I have read that the cause of this can be because of the fact that you have installed the graphic drivers many times, but I do not know if its true.
Attaching a report. Thanks in advance for helping out

Hi Darkprior & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

Unfortunately, the ZIP File uploaded by you does not contain any Dump files. Make sure that you are not running any kind of cleaning utilities like CCLeaner, TuneUpUtilities etc since they delete the dump files which are needed to analyse the problem.

You are experiencing the VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE bugcheck which means that the Display Driver failed to respond within a specific time. This happened for more than 5 times and Windows decided to crash the system thinking that future crashes could hurt the data integrity.
For laptops, it is strongly advised to use the drivers provided by the manufacturers only since they are tweaked for proper usage. Kindly run the Display Driver Uninstaller from this **LINK** and run it. Once your NVIDIA driver is removed, kindly download and install the latest NVIDIA Driver from the below support link for your laptop -
Notebooks & Ultrabooks - N550JK - ASUS

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Thank you for looking into my problem.
Yes as you mentioned, Im using CCleaner from time to time so I accidentaly deleted them dump files..

So, I uninstalled the NVidia driver with the tool you linked me, then installed the driver from ASUS support. Everything seems fine so far, no display driver error, BSOD etc., but one thing is bugging me and that is the possibility that some games may not run properly because the driver provided by ASUS support is a bit old (v337.88) and there is already a v344.75 driver on the NVidia site...
Wont there be a problem with this "old" driver in the future?

Thanks again for advices and helping out :thumb:

Hi ^_^,

I apologize for the delayed response since I am having my exams right now. I don't think that there would be any serious problem running the latest games except the fact that there may be minor benefits of ~1-10%.

It is advised to use the Graphics Driver provided by the manufacturer in case of laptops because of the fact that the manufacturers tweak the drivers so that the External GPU (Your NVIDIA Card) can work along with the Intel GPU (Integrated on the motherboard). This is done to ensure Performance when required and battery life as per the requirement.

I hope this clears your doubt :)

In case your problem has been solved, kindly mark this thread as SOLVED ^_^
