Random restarts

    Windows 8.1

Seems there's still something going on. Just to check, I booted with Driver Verifier active, and this time it actually loaded Windows. After using the PC for a few minutes, it crashed and restarted. Loaded into Windows again, and the same happened after a few minutes.

Looking at Event Viewer, I've had 3 critical events since the re-installation. All of them "Kernel-power - Event ID 41 - Task category (63). "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

The first one I haven't even noticed, but the system was probably not under heavy load. Must have happened when I was AFK. The other two came now with the Driver Verification. I ran Aida64 for 1h, no problems. Also played a game for 2h, no crashes.

Driver Verifier identified Nvidia driver and Bitdefender as culprits.

Thank you. I've uninstalled Bitdefender, and activated Windows Defender. Guess it's not easy to figure out why the Nvidia driver crashed.. according to others who had problems with it, it can be both software and hardware related.

Btw, those red drivers. I don't have a Logitech keyboard, only a mouse (G600). Using Logitech Gaming Software, from their website (LGS_8.57.145_x64_Logitech).

Please rename the drivers in red from .sys to .bak to prevent them from loading. Try this: Nvidia - Nvlddmkm.sys error message

Thank you. Just got another random restart before I saw your post. Was playing a game (Guild Wars 2). After reinstalling Windows I've seen some stuttering in-game, and when I alt-tab it takes an extra second to get back into the game (playing in windowed fullscreen), it was instant before.

Did as that guide said, will see if it helps.

Edit: I'm also noticing some static noise on my headphones now, that weren't there before. Seems to be random, not that loud. I'm using a Fiio USB Dac Amp.

I finally figured out the issue. It turns out it was hardware related, the GPU. More precisely the water block, as it turns out the card is running fine now that I've mounted the original fan. I have no idea why, the temps were great. Only thing I saw was that I used too much thermal paste when I put the block on, and there were some spilled on the sides over some pins.

I realized I have an old GTX 465 laying around, so I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers (that seemed to cause trouble), switched the cards, and installed new drivers for it (turns out they run on the same drivers though). Windows loaded fine, so I started Driver Verifier and restarted. The 980 managed to run 5-10 min before crashing, this card ran for 1 and a half hour, without any signs of problems.

Thank you so much for all your help, softwaremaniac!
