Fresh install, PC keeps crashing (RAM or temp. issue)

I did a memory test using Microsoft’s and it didn’t show up any errors, which is a pity, because I thought my RAM would be the problem.

Whenever my PC is doing more stuff, it crashes. I can’t edit (long) videos, because in the rendering process, it crashes.

The PC can be quite hot, so it might be a temperature problem. In any case, I can’t let my PC sleep, because then it won’t wake up (but crash), but I thought that was a Windows 8.1 problem, anyway.

The more unreliable this PC gets, the more I think I just need to buy a new one (the laptop is from 2010). Let’s hope, there’s hope, though.

Unfortunately the MS Memory diagnostic does not do a good job detecting memory error, you need to download:
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
and run it for at least 5 passes unless errors occur earlier.

For Laptop, there's always problem with heat and yours is about 4 year-old. Have you ever cleaned the dust iside the Laptop ? Just use a vacumn cleaner and try to suck out the dust inside it or you might have to disassemble to clean it up.

I am using Windows 10 TP and don't have the WinDebug installed so I won't be able to look at the crash dump but try what I suggested above first.

It looks like it was a temperature thing all along. I cleaned up the fans, which seems to have reduced the temperature, but not enough.

What can I do about it? I could try using a laptop fan, but I’m not sure if they are worth it.

Try using canned air to blow out the vents in the laptop. DO NOT USE an air compressor, it can damage the components!
Using a laptop fan may help, but first be sure that you're using the laptop on a hard surface.
Purchase a laptop fan from a place that takes returns - that way you can return it if it's not needed.

Good luck!
