I don't know what's causing the problem. Second crash while I'm doing seemingly normal things. I had iTunes, Steam (not playing a game), and Chrome open. This is second crash and both times I was watching a video. That may just be a coincidence, though. Let me know if anything can be done, please!

Update the driver in red if update is available. Your GPU drivers are causing the crash. Please try updating them.

So, first off, I don't know how to update that driver highlighted in red. I tried Device Manager > Xbox 360 Peripherals > Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows > update driver > search automatically. I get the message "Windows was unable to install your..." which is odd because it says Microsoft is the manufacturer. Pretty sure I had to find the drivers manually last time, so I should do that again, right? Well, I got as far as this: Software Downloads: Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows.
Which would be good, but Windows 8 is not an option when I'm told to select an Operating System. So, I think I'm meant to buy an Xbox One controller.

I'll be back with the results of my attempt at updating my GPU drivers.
EDIT: Pretty Sure it worked. I'm attaching the log, which seems pretty uneventful despite the fact I was told there were "warning messages". I'm gonna restart now and see if everything worked. END EDIT

P.S. Whenever the word "driver" appeared in your post It was hyperlinked to some "Microsoft Partner" "Norton Secure" site, or something like that (I can look it up in my history if you want to know what is was called, but I don't want to advertise for them). I downloaded the software, thinking you were linking to it, and it turned out to be a big up-sell telling me, I believe, every driver I have installed is out of date. Pretty sketchy. For some reason signing in

That's the site, not me. I've seen this happening in the past. Those are ads. Download the drivers only from the official manufacturer website. Firstly try updating GPU drivers and then get back with the results, again download only from the official website.

Oh, yeah, for sure. I just think that it's super nefarious taking advantage of people who are clearly looking for help, preying on people's ignorance, and telling them there's a problem and you have the solution to all of it. That just seems like scumbag behavior.

There is a problem indeed, but I never provide people with links to drivers, I just tell them to get them from manufacturer website.
I would never take advantage of another person. I'm truely sorry for what has happened to you, but you should have asked if you weren't sure, I would have gladly provided you with additional info and helped you out.

Okay, I'll just let it go. I'm not blaming you, just shady business practices.

I found a guide for updating my X360 controller drivers: Xbox 360 Wired Controller | Connect to Windows Computer | Xbox Wired Controller.

I think I'm good. Thanks for your help!

Edit: says it's up to date. I don't know where I'd find more recent drivers.

Hi Bubble & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

Just saw this thread. According to you, you are getting various Hyperlinks of words written on a website page while browsing right?
If yes, then you have Adware present on your system which comes from installing malicious software or sometimes the installers ask if you would like to install extra toolbars and stuff and one just installs them. Some software do it without asking the user as well. This behaviour is also found when installing malicious addons for the Browsers.

FYI, I just downloaded the XBOX Controller driver from the link you gave and installed it and I don't see any ads coming up on my browsers. Tried even a restart but no ads.

I would suggest you to the scan the system for Malware and resetting the browsers. Furthermore, uninstall any Crapware you can find from the Add/Remove.

Could you please post the screenshot when you hover over the hyperlink and an ad pops up?

Also, I don't think softwaremaniac is at fault, probably a third cause has caused this behaviour and is in coincidence with the installation of the driver.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Yeah, the first description is correct. Hyperlinks were appearing for certain words (just one in this case).

So, I ran: rkill, Bitdefender, malwarebytes, and Spybot Search and Destroy. I got nothing except on Spybot. Spybot returned with mostly tracking cookies for ad companies (I could upload the log if you wanted). All green/low threat levels. They appeared in the Quarantine area and I looked up and deleted all the ad related ones.

Can tracking cookies really hyperlink text on another webpage? If all they do is, I assume, track your browsing, then how is that possible? Also, The link disappeared, then reappeared, and is now gone again.

Whoa...okay, I think I figured it out. It IS this site or some very advanced/irrationally programmed adware that has evaded all detection. Try viewing the page when logged in versus when logged out. If you are logged out you get the hyperlinked text (I'm guessing other keywords would work).

It isn't an ad that pops up when you hover over text. I have seen this type of adware and it's quite obvious. Websites that I have subscriptions too still display ads, etc.

I'm not worried about the drivers for my controller being infected I was just concerned that there were no updated versions.

I don't ever see myself as blaming softwaremaniac and I hadn't tried to install the driver for the X360 controller as you can tell by my first reply

It's true. I just checked. Logged out and opened this topic and the word drivers were underlined and were leading to some ad site for a phony driver updater...

It is the forums doing advertisement for revenue by showing advertisements to the non-members :) . It is employed by many websites since it doesn't annoy most of the users as compared to the popup ads :)

Are you referring to the link provided just below the driver in RED i.e. this below link? -
Driver Reference Table - xusb21.sys

EDIT :- It seems, I got your point. You are referring to the phony driver update site which is popping up when you log out of the forums right? I don't think that webmasters can change the ads as the advertisements are target based. I hope this solves your problem along with the BSOD problem.

In case of any further problems, do not hesitate to post back ^_^
