Hi

I really hope someone can help me with this after installing windows 8 and using it for the past 3 weeks now I have found that my pc is freezing and not closing down properly and this gets worse with each day. I am unable for some reason to go back to windows 7 using the factory restore tool!!. But I will say I do like using windows 8 but these crashes are now beginning to get on my nerves due to them happening constantly all day.

I have uploaded a zip file with my events log and hoping that if I can get these fixed I will be happy to stay with windows 8. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey ya, welcome.

Please run the tool in the top thread on the Crash subforum in the manner it asks, then attach the zip here that it makes. We'll see what's up.

Cool, you're welcome.

Uninstall Norton with the special tool found online, in safe mode. Reboot and type services.msc in the start menu then press enter. Set the Windows Firewall and Windows Defender services to auto and start them too.

That should fix it all up, but your files did not contain the memory dumps from your crashes at all. Did you run the tool as Administrator as shown? Do you have a C:\Windows\Minidump folder at all?

If it were me, I'd also uninstall Samsung Auto backup and PC Tools software.

What you should do also is to use the Task Manager to disable all of those unnecessary items from starting with Windows.

Oh thats fantastic, I will set to doing all those things,

There was one file which has a cab extension which I have not uploaded as it was either taking forever or doing nothing when I tried to upload here, so not sure if that was the file you are looking for, I will try and find that mini dump folder for you though and get you to have a quick look at it if you dont mind that is.

Oddly the Samsung software wont work since installing windows 8 but the hard drive itself works fine, just cant use the software which is liveable just annoying.

thanks

Just tried to upload that file again, I can now see the file is to large, but it is zipped cant break it down any further as its just one file on its own lol.

A quick question for you, when I have uninstalled Norton does that mean I cannot re-install it and use it, I am guessing not and will need to look for alternative software.

Alright ya no problems. Take care of those items above I've mentioned. When all done, please tell us how it is going. If further help needed, please let us know if C:\Windows\Minidump exists at all.

You can upload anything you want to RapidShare ? Secure Data Logistics and then paste a link here, if necessary. More info always better. Crash logs would be perfect.

If you follow my post about the 2 services above, that's all your computer needs to operate securely and well. Together, they are my recommendation.

"Reboot and type services.msc in the start menu then press enter. Set the Windows Firewall and Windows Defender services to auto and start them too."

Glad to hear things are going well for ya now.

oh right, i see I was thinking you told me to do that as a temp measure :), thats cool all done now and seems to be ok, I have noticed that pc is running a lot less groggy now so that's great too.

I have new issue come up and not sure if it is as a result of new changes or not but I wouldn't of thought so and I don't know if you would have the answer, but my file history drive keeps disconnecting and I am receiving important message from the action centre to reconnect it. I have no idea about this issue my self!

Not sure what you mean about "file history drive" but you're welcome to take a screenshot of Disk Management and attach it here so we can see your storage situation.

Other than that, Windows 8 has a new service/feature called "File History Service". You may or may not find that useful, so you'll have to decide about it. Me personally? I have that disabled.

Yes, Norton products are quite notorious always causing crashes, freezes and slow system performance. Your pc is thanking you already for removing it. *Borat voice on* That's a true. *Borat voice off*
