Driver Power State Failure - Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

    Hello,

I am getting periodic BSOD issues that MIGHT be occurring when the system is transferring from the Intel(r) HD 4000 GPU to the GTX 880M Nvida card. The Nvidia card is brand new. I've been trying to test it via GPU-Z and FurMark. I ran it for an hour and it never crashed, but was running very hot -92-93C. Not really sure how to even test the Intel(R) HD 4000 GPU. Nothing is overclocked or has ever been overclocked.

I re-installed windows 8.1 but the problem persists.

Yes, the problem is the GPU, but it might have crashed because of the temp. It shouldn't be so high. Have you cleaned your laptop of dust?

I haven't opened it up since I got it back from the manufacturer a few weeks ago. Easy enough to pop open and try blowing out any dust though. Is there anything in the above error messages that indicates which GPU is the issue? I am assuming the Nvidia card is the issue, but the problem actually doesn't occur in the game. It is more likely to occur at game startup or at the point where you click to exit. Almost as though the hand-off to the Intel GPU is the point of the failure. Doesn't mean it isn't the Nvidia card, but wanted to confirm the *dmp output is pointing to the Nvidia card as the culprit.

Thanks for your quick and informative analysis!

Yes you are right. It does point to the Nvidia card. But, it is most probably a driver issue and not the GPU itself. Try this please: Nvidia - Nvlddmkm.sys error message

    Hello,
I tried Re-installing Windows 8 followed by upgrading to 8.1 - Unfortunately the problem didn't go away. I talked with Nvidia at one point and did a clean install with the latest drivers. No luck.
I had another issue where the laptop battery wasn't keeping it's charge so I recently also upgraded to a new laptop battery and power supply cord. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is in a sleep mode. I can play a game for hours without an issue, but then if I step away and come back it gives the BSOD. I am attaching a new analysis file to see if anything in the result set indicates a change. This is a new 880M Nvidia card. I've heard the issue might be the card looking around forums. Do I need to upgrade the card to resolve?

All your help and insights are greatly appreciated.
