Dear Support Team,

I am aware that there are a lot of topics around the WWW covering exactly this problem. And trust me, I already spent hours to lookup solutions. And I tried a lot. It's been a long time now that I need to create a case to get my problem fixed. So I was searching for the right board, and somehow I came up landing here - and hope you guys are able to help me out. I have chosen this board as I noticed you created nice tools to gather sysinfo automatically as you need.

Alright, lets come to the problem summary: When playing games, the notebook reboots within a hidden BSOD. I checked the dumps, its related to atikmdag.sys. What have I done so far?
- Fresh OS Install to Windows 8.1, including all Updates
- Install of latest/greatest ATI Driver, including the manual EXPAND of atikmdag.sy_ to atikmdag.sys
- BIOS Update

And I still do not think that this is related to a HW issue. Please help me out on this - you guys are my last chance to not lose my mind! :)

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

Lot's of Windows Updates failures in the WER section of the MSINFO32 report. If the problems continue, please post over in the Windows Updates & Activation - Windows 8 Forums for further expert assistance with this issue.

Your UEFI/BIOS dates from 2012. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the UEFI/BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. If possible, use the "inside Windows" flash mechanism (if your OEM provides one) - that is much more forgiving than the traditional (floppy drive) flash method.

What were the temps on the video card just prior to the BSOD? I see that HWInfo was running when the system crashed.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Intel Management Engine Interface
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=HECIx64.sys

Also, uninstall the AMD Audio Bus driver as it dates from 2012

Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Beyond that, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics Be sure to run all of the video diagnostics - as I suspect a video issue.

Hi John,

Thank you vor your response. Please note that I installed the latest available Intel Management Engine Driver. BIOS is up2date already. And I performed the driver verifier test according to the instructions you provided. I let the system crash multiple times (it was a lot easier with the verifier activated). I will perform the HW tests at another time, would you please check my DUMPs?

-> Download Sven-NB-16 11 14-dumps.zip

I have let FurMark run 10 Minutes, see the attached screenshot - no issues, no overheating.

Thanks,
Nineteen

Furmark results look OK.

There's no new memory dumps in the uploaded reports.
Please do the following to generate another report that may have info on the crashes:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting
Also, please generate this report again:
MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

Hi John,

Thanks for your help. I cleaned the driver using the driver cleaner from Guru3D and installed the latest / greatest from AMD/ATI. Since then it looks like the error is solved. I will come back to you if it crashes again.

Cheers,
Neunzehn
