BSOD when playing games

Hi,

So basically this is a new PC. I am getting a BSOD everytime I play a game. Sometimes it happens DURING the game (after 10 mins or so), sometimes when I Alt-Tab from the game and sometimes after exiting the game.
Games with issues: Titanfall, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Watchdogs, War Thunder.

All GPU drivers are up to date.

Please find attached the dump files.

Please do tell if I need to provide more info as this is my first post here. :)

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the delay in responding. Do you still need help with this topic?
If so, respond and I'll be notified by email.

While waiting for a reply, please try these suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
2. Get ALL available, Windows 8.1 compatible updates from the manufacturer's website.
3. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
4. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Many thanks to softwaremaniac for helping out here!

There is a problem with a PS2 mouse. If you are using a USB mouse, it's safe to ignore this problem.

Out of 17 memory dumps there were 8 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case. Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

You have both Avast and MalwareBytes present in the memory dumps (I can't be sure if they're running at the same time or not). Please uninstall MalwareBytes and see if that stops the problem. You should only have one antivirus and one firewall running at a time (they tend to conflict). In some cases, when installing the free trial of MalwareBytes, one of the checkboxes is to enable the free trial of the Premium version. The Premium version runs in memory - so opt out of it should you reinstall MalwareBytes AFTER the system has been stabilized.

Please uninstall MSI Afterburner (if it's installed). Also, please uninstall MSI Live Update. They use the same driver (NTIOLib_X64.sys) and they are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems. In the future, should you need LiveUpdate - install it, use it, then uninstall it.

Please uninstall the program that's using the WinRing libraries (RealTemp, Corsair Link2 (known BSOD issues w/Win8), Razer GameBooster, Fusiontweaker (Google Code), etc) as their driver (WinRing0x64.sys) dates from 2008 and is likely not compatible w/Win8 or 8.1

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I'll try all your suggestions as soon as I get home. Thanks :)

OK my bad, I have NO PS/2 mouse connected to the pc but just 1 usb mouse. All I have is a PS/2 keyboard connected.
I did everything you instructed, and also updated my graphics driver as a new update just went out today.
Now when I'm playing games, I'm not getting any more BSODs (till now) but the game just crashes with an error message saying "{game_name}.exe has stopped responding". I think it's kind of an improvement from the BSODs.

Also in the Problem Devices section of MSINFO32, there's an indication of a problem with Microsoft PS/2 mouse, but I have no PS/2 mouse connected...

Any other suggestions?

Thanks :)

If there is no PS2 mouse connected - don't worry about it (It's most likely the controller reporting that the mouse isn't attached).

What were the results of the hardware tests? This memory dump blames video - so I'd have to wonder about the results of the video stress tests.

Please tell me about uninstalling these drivers (as they are still in the memory dumps:
Please uninstall MSI Afterburner (if it's installed). Also, please uninstall MSI Live Update. They use the same driver (NTIOLib_X64.sys) and they are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems. In the future, should you need LiveUpdate - install it, use it, then uninstall it.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I did a GPU stress test recently and no errors were found. Note that I stopped the test immediately when the GPU temperature exceeded 85 degrees Celsius. Yes, I uninstalled both MSI Afterburner and MSI Live Update. I am not able to update (download) ndisrd.sys driver as the link provided leads to a Not Found page (broken).

Also, today I got 2 more BSODs (dump files attached). Seems like the problem is with the file ntoskrnl.exe, but I'll leave that up to you of course :).

Thanks again.

I expect that your graphics card is overheating. Please check to make sure that the cooler and fan on the card are working properly.

We'll also need the results of the rest of the hardware tests (it helps to narrow down where the problem may be).

Depending on what program that you use that installs the ndisrd.sys driver, here's the 2 links that I was able to find:
Mionet: MioNet| Your personal private network for PC remote access, webcam access software, backup, and file sharing
Windows Packet Filter Kit: NT Kernel Resources - Windows Packet Filter Kit (I've fixed the link in the table - thanks for letting us know!)

ntoskrnl.exe is kernel (core) of the operating system. If it were to blame for the BSOD's you'd most likely be seeing many other problems with the system other than the occasional BSOD. In most cases that blame it, it's actually a 3rd party driver corrupting the memory space that is assigned to it.

Just FYI - here's how I do BSOD analysis':
- first I rule out 3rd party drivers (over 90% of BSOD's are due to this)
- then I rule out hardware (less than 10% of BSOD's are due to this)
- then I look at Windows problems (less than 1% of BSOD's are due to this - as long as Windows Updates are fully up to date).

Here's how to safely remove the NTIOLib_X64.sys driver:
1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc (Recovery Drive in Win8.1):
Win 8.1 - Go to the Start Screen and type in "recoverydrive" (one word, without the quotes). That will start the recovery drive process. You will need a USB drive of at least 512 mB - and all data will be erased off of it. If copying the recovery partition the drive size will be much, much larger (16 - 32 gB drive required).
3) Test the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive to make sure that you can get to the System Restore entry when you boot from the disk/drive (you may also want to try actually using System Restore to make sure that it works)
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of NTIOLib_X64.sys that are starting (DO NOT DELETE - only disable by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of NTIOLib_X64.sys are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of NTIOLib_X64.sys are disabled.
7) EXPERIMENTAL STEP (only try if you're certain of your abilities - I have not tried this step myself). Search the registry (use regedit.exe) to locate any entries that have the driver name (NTIOLib_X64.sys). Delete these keys (it's advisable to back them up first - but you've also backed up the entire registry when creating a System Restore point in step 1. Alternatively, you can set the values in these keys to DISABLED (but the "how" of this is beyond the scope of this).
8) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename the NTIOLib_X64.sys driver to NTIOLib_X64.BAD (search the hard drive for it if it's not in C:\Windows\System32\drivers).

In the event that the system doesn't boot:

1) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the Command Prompt option to rename NTIOLib_X64.BAD to NTIOLib_X64.sys
Code:
ren C:\Windows\System32\drivers\NTIOLib_X64.BAD C:\Windows\System32\drivers\NTIOLib_X64.sys
21) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!

The ndisrd.sys driver isn't present in these last 2 memory dumps - as such I'm not as worried about it as I was previously.
Also, this increases my suspicion about the NTIOLib_X64.sys driver (as it is still present).

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings (I can't recall if we've done this yet)
