Sudden BAD_POOL_CALLER crash in Windows 8.1 Pro on HP m6

    Hi,

I haven't made any major changes recently. My hardware is exactly the same. There have been a few software updates and I haven't restarted my computer since it didn't prompt me.

The most likely candidate, in my opinion, is Google Drive. I've disabled the status icons and right-click integration since I've had problems with that in the past. Explorer.exe was crashing and my taskbar would disappear for 10-20 seconds. Now it's still disabled, but the taskbar did go away and come back last night. I thought it was some kind of hardware fault, but it was actually a Google Drive update. Of course, it didn't prompt me to restart so I ignored it. A little while later, I received four WinInet Helper Class crashes within an hour, but nothing seemed to change.

I started using my computer again today. I opened Firefox (latest release, 33.0.2) with about four tabs, I had Event Viewer open to research the WinInet Helper Class crashes, and I was in the process of opening Microsoft Outlook. That's when I suddenly saw a BAD_POOL_CALLER.

The last time I had one of these was about 3-4 months ago after updating my Bluetooth driver directly from Intel. It turned out it wasn't quite stable, so I system restored to my older stable driver. I doubt it's Bluetooth again.

Hopefully you can help me figure out what caused it so that it doesn't happen again.

    Thanks everyone.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Do you still need help with this topic?
If so, respond and I'll be notified by email.

While waiting for a reply, please try these suggestions:
    1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
    2. Get ALL available, Windows 8.1 compatible updates from the manufacturer's website.
    3. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
    4. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

It hasn't happened again but I'd like to know what caused it so I can see if it might happen.

There's nothing in the uploaded reports. If you'd like an analysis, please try running the report generator again.

If you've only had 1 BSOD, the conventional suggestions are to wait and see if you have another. Often updates and self-healing mechanisms will kick in and fix things behind the scenes. It's after the second one that you should start intensive diagnostics.
