    Blue Screen Startup Error

    Hi,

Hope someone can assist me with my issue.

I have a Pre-installed Windows 8 laptop, however after a week of being away, I have come back to find my Laptop presenting me with the following message when I attempt to boot it up.

    "RECOVERY

Your PC needs to be repaired

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

    Error Code: 0xc000000f

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

    Press Enter to Try Again
    Press F8 for Startup Settings
Press ESC for UEFI Firmware Settings."

When I press Enter to try again, I get the following ...

    "RECOVERY

Your PC needs to be repaired.

The Operating System could not be repaired because the system registry file is missing or needs repaired.

    File: \Windows\System32\Config\system
    Error Code: 0xc000014c

    ... [same as above]"

Can anyone guide me on how to solve this?

    Thanks.

P.S. It is an Asus K55A laptop.

Hi Shields16 & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

Are you able to boot into Windows?

See if you are able to use the System Restore to restore your system to an earlier working state using this below guide-

Make system repairs from the Windows Recovery Environment (from Windows Vista Inside Out)

It is for Windows Vista, but should work with Windows 8 as well.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

It couldn't find any restore points. I created a bootable Windows 8 DVD after wiping the entire hard drive clean. Now when I go to install a fresh Windows 8, it cant even find the hard disk. Initially, it would find it, but would not be able to install it as "couldnt locate the source". Results online seemed to point at a HDD failure, and given the fact it can no longer even recognise the HDD I can confidently assume that is the issue. I will purchase a new one and let you know if that makes any changes.

If you have any other pointers please do reply.

    Thanks again

I also should mention I tried Start up repair, Windows Refresh, and also resetting to factory settings however it could not do so as a drive partition was missing.

That's most likely a Dead Hard Disk.

Although, have you tried swapping out the cables as well? Because many times it happens that the cable is dead or the port is loose. Check for loose connections. See if you are able to detect the HDD if you connect it to another system.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

That was my initial thought too.

I will open it up this evening and check for any loose connections. I will try the things you suggested and get back to you.

    thanks

    Hi,

I tried re-connecting the HDD and checking for loose connections, no change once attempting again. I then connected it to my desktop and again does not show up as a disk. I can only assume the HDD is pretty much dead and needs replaced?

    Thanks again
