BSOD after installing nVidia Quadro K2000

I've had occasional BSOD while playing games or running graphics intensive applications (SolidWorks, etc) with my previous AMD graphics card, so I thought I'd try an nVidia instead. I put a Quadro K2000 this morning and now my computer is crashing hourly. The culprit is reported as nvlddmkm.sys for what that's worth.

I believe I have all the latest Windows 8.1 updates and I tried two versions of the nVidia driver, the version "certified" for SolidWorks and now the latest one (340.84).

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes

I uninstalled the AMD drivers using DDU and just removed the nVidia drivers using it as well. I did a clean reinstall of the nVidia 340.84 driver. It crashed after 20 minutes. The latest minidump is enclosed.

I also tried the process in that other thread and it didn't work at all.

I enabled Driver Verifier and it crashed about six times without a blue screen. This last time I got a BSOD. The minidump for that is enclosed.

I've tried everything you suggest. The youtube video "fix" did nothing.

I installed six different drivers from nVidia, going back to several that were reported as very stable with Windows 8.1. No change.

I removed the nVidia card and put my AMD FirePro W5000 back in. I installed the "certified" driver for SolidWorks (9.003.3) and updated Driver Verifier to include the new drivers. It still crashes periodically, sometimes with a BSOD or sometimes it just hangs. The "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" error is still reported with the BSOD. Here is the last minidump.

I'm puzzled why it happens with two different video cards from two different vendors with completely different drivers. There must be something else going on with my system. :/

I updated the BIOS last night. No change. I tried the Intel Driver Update Utility and all it suggested was an update to the audio driver, which I've downloaded and tried next.

I can consistently get a BSOD fairly quickly by running a graphics intensive program like Firestorm (Second Life viewer). Here are nine minidumps I collected over the last 90 minutes. Doesn't seem to be any consistent cause. Frustrating!

I tried many things last night, different drivers, different install methods (removing completely with DDU and not) but still got BSOD every few minutes.

Then I switched the video card from the first PCI Express slot to the second. At that point the AMD driver install utility failed at installing the driver (didn't say why). The BIOS saw the card, as did Windows, but for some reason the AMD utility didn't.

In desperation I put in an older video card, an AMD V4900, which is slower but a pretty generic workstation card. It uses the same drivers as the W5000. The AMD install utility still wouldn't install the driver.

I then went into Device Manager and let Windows download and install a driver for the card.

No more BSOD, at least after four hours of hard use (playing video games) last night and another 90 minutes this morning. The application crashed a couple of times but the system stayed rock solid.

Then this morning it crashed for the first time (dxgmms1 was the culprit) and then quickly three times after that (ntkrnlmp and HDAudBus). Seemingly back to the old behavior.

At this point my engineering mind has concluded it must be a hardware issue. Something flaky and intermittent. Of the crashes that created minidumps over the last 24 hours here is the distribution:

dxgmms1 4 times
usbport 2 times
ntkrnlmp 7 times
dxgkrnl 1 time
wfplwfs 5 times
atikmdaq 1 time
usbxhci 1 time
HDAudBus 1 time

Hard to believe the culprit is one driver or set of drivers. Why would it be so stable for so long and then all the sudden start crashing again when the software hasn't changed? I'm assuming that Windows doesn't change arbitrarily, though.

I can try running memtest86 tonight, but I've done that before and the memory seems stable. What would be the next thing? Changing the entire motherboard? I could just bin all the components and start fresh, at this point it might be cheaper given the amount of time I've wasted on this!

Nathan

Please try this:
This problem occurs when the Windows Update agent file Wups2.dll is registered incorrectly. Thus this workaround is a re-registration of Windows Update files. Before proceeding to the solution mentioned below, I suggest you to run the Windows App Troubleshooter and System File Checker scan once. May be you will get lucky and fix this problem.
Steps:
1. open notepad:
2. Copy and paste the following commands in notepad:
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUCLTUX.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUWEBV.DLL /S
REGSVR32 JSCRIPT.DLL /S
REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL /S
3. Save notepad as a .bat file. Then right-click the file and select run as Administrator.

1) Go to device manager and uninstall all the options under the USB devices panel. Unplug all USB devices then give PC a restart.
2) Download the Intel Chipset Software for your model of chipset. Install the software, then restart PC

Please post a screenshot form Device Manager.

How does one get clean copies of those files? I don't have any other installations of Windows 8.1. Enough to want me to go back to Windows 7!

Using the install disc. Backing up files and reinstalling Windows would be my next recommendation. I am sorry. I do not see any other way since there are some corrupted files and you don't have the 8.1 installation media.

I replaced the corrupt files (by installing 8.1 x64 on a virtual machine and copying the correct files) and now SFC runs without any errors or corrupt files found.

The machine still crashes every few minutes of graphics intense game playing. But sometimes will go an hour or longer. The latest minidumps enclosed.

I've tested the memory with memtest86 with no errors. Also run FurMark with GPU temps peaking at around 70 C, and used CPUID to watch other temps with nothing seemingly out of range.

I have a replacement motherboard which I'm considering trying next. :(

Are you using Intel RST? How do you connect your mouse? Please post a SS from Device Manager and try updating video card drivers from Device Manager -> Display Adapters Right click on your GPU then left click on a button update driver software.
