Hi,

I'm having BSOD while not even doing anything on the laptop.
I've tried getting the latest driver from Intel and its still recurring.
The only option I have is to disable the display adapters. If I enable it there will be lots of dead pixels (attached pic) + lag and it'll crashed into BSOD.

Please help  Thanks

At first I thought that there were dirt particles on the screen and then later I read your statement about Dead Pixels -_- .

I wonder, if it would not be a hardware problem. Do you get the Dead Pixels if you turn off the Intel Display Adapter from the Device Manager? I also see that you have installed the NVIDIA Drivers. Do you have this issue of Dead Pixels when you use the NVIDIA Display Adapter?

Let me ask my friend if I could suggest you Video Benchmark Test since you are on a Laptop.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Thanks for the reply blueelvis

I can't use the nvidia as it is integrated with the intel. Can't even run the test. Or is there any other way? I downloaded the 3d mark and it says I can't run it.

Dead pixels occur only when intel graphic display is enabled. If disabled the screen is fine.

Is this a hardware problem?

Hi Xizhax ^_^,

Most likely, Yes it is a hardware fault but I won't advise doing anything before we do the tests to make sure :) . Kindly report back the results of the Prime95 test.

Prime95 download site:
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/
Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight please run the "Small FFTs" test instead. (run all 3 if you find a problem and note how long it takes to error out with each)
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
Monitor the CPU temperature and DON'T let it exceed 85ºC. If it does, then you probably have a CPU cooling problem.
- CPU temps exceeding 60ºC can cause errors in Prime95. Fix the cooling solution first, then run Prime95 again.
This won't necessarily crash the system - but check the output in the test window for errors.
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.
NOTE: Errors should be considered when:
- the system BSOD's during Prime95
- the system freezes during Prime95 (this is different than the extreme slowness caused by the program using all your RAM and CPU)
- the Prime95 program crashes
- the Prime95 program shows errors in it's display
- there are errors in the Prime95 results file
More details on the use of this test: Torture test your CPU with Prime95

hi blueelvis,

I ran the prime95 and an hour into the test the core temp was 90,89,85,80 max and then i stopped it. Should I continue with the test?

Temps are too hot. You should investigate fixing the cooling on the system before proceeding further.
If this is a laptop, please be sure that you blow out all the vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or a vacuum as they can damage the hardware). Make sure that the fan is running, and if possible, use a laptop cooling pad.

Also, monitor your system's temperatures with this free tool: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Let us know what the temps are running and we'll move on from there.

Hi usasma,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I am using hwmonitor for the temp I mentioned before. Everytime I ran the test the temp would be around the same value.

I blow the vents but I dare not take the laptop apart too much as I'm not an expert in case anything goes wrong.

I still shudder at the thought of taking a laptop apart (and I'm fairly well-versed in it).

Blow the vents out. If it's still getting too hot, take it to a shop to see what they can do.
Around here most shops will charge an hour of labor to open a laptop and an hour to put it back together.
At $75/hour (US), that's about $150 and you still haven't figured in the cost of the actual repair.

It's gonna take a while to get the laptop to a shop since I'm away now.

But I guess that's the only option left.

Anyway thanks you guys. Much appreciated!

Sure thing let us know how it goes ^_^.

Dang usasma, 75$ per hour seems very costly to me. It is like 20-30$ per hour plus repairs extra.

I asked about this at local repair shops a while back (when pricing A/C adapter plug repairs) - and the cost of living is high here (I live between New York City and Boston, Massachusetts). My boss gets $60 an hour for my labor. We're not real well-versed in internal laptop repairs - mostly limiting ourselves to HDD replacements/pulling the HDD for a data backup. If it's more complicated than that, we send it out to a repair center for further repairs.

Hmm true that. I have tried many times to open up my laptop and the last time I did that, I spent hours combining it together.
