Asus Desktop Crashes Randomly

OK. New to the forum so thanks in advance for any help I can get. I've run sfc /scannow and collected logs as requested. Not sure what's wrong. Only solution offered by Asus support was to do a O/S reinstall. I'd like to avoid that for obvious reasons. HD integrity check is good. I have all windows updates complete. All drivers seem to be up to date.

Anyone see anything fixable in the logs attached?

Hi Ghanner & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I deeply apologize for the delay caused as we have been very busy :(

Do you mean your Desktop of ASUS brand crashes and has the Blue Screen Of Death? If yes, then the log file uploaded by you does not contain any dump files to analyse :(
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidumps\ and then ZIP up all of the dump files and then upload it as an attachment.

If not, then kindly describe your problem in more detail so that I could see what is wrong ^_^.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Hi Blueelvis,

I just remembered to check and there's nothing in C:\Windows\Minidumps\folder as it's empty.

The PC just crashed out of the blue again. When I say crashed, I mean the screen goes completely black. It then seems to do a restart, but the start screen is also black. I then have to do a hard shut down and then I finally can log in and machine resumes operating normally.

Not sure what's causing the crashing as all OS updates are done and drivers all seem current.

Anything else you can think of that I might check?

As we can see from the Dump file analysis, the NVIDIA Driver is causing the problem. I would suggest you to uninstall the currently installed NVIDIA Driver using the Display Driver Uninstaller from this **LINK** and then clean up the NVIDIA Drivers. Once the NVIDIA Drivers are removed, kindly install a driver version which was released few months ago and see if you are still having the problems or not.

If the problem is still not solved, I would suggest you to run the Furmark Benchmark and report back if you face any problems along with the temperatures.
FurMark Video Stress Test - free from here: FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net
FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test (Looks like it's "BURN-IN test" now)
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
NOTE: Set the alarm to go off at 90ºC. Then watch the system from that point on. If the system doesn't display a temperature, watch it constantly and turn it off at the first sign of video problems. DO NOT leave it it unmonitored, it can DAMAGE your video card!!!
If the temperature gets above 100ºC, quit the test - the video card is overheating.
- Click "Quit" to exit[/quote]
What you are looking for:
- excessive heat from the GPU (report back with anything over 90ºC)
- problems with the video display (picture is distorted or jumbled, picture turns black, etc)
- problems reported by the program (I haven't seen this, but "just in case")

Let me know how it goes ^_^

OK, before removing drivers, I ran FurMark stress test and had alarm set to 100....I opened the case and saw the fan for the video card wasn't running. I then started the test and the alarm fired as I hit 100 and presto, the machine video crashed. Perhaps the card fan is dead? Would removing the drivers and re-installing fix the video card fan?

Hi Ghanner,

That means you are having the problem of Over-heating. Unfortunately, the re-installation of the drivers won't help fix a dead fan. I would suggest you to clean the fan and make sure that it is moving freely. If it still does not move, you would have to get the card replaced.

Thanks BlueElvis!! I got it. Pulled the card and am running off the integrated graphics card. Ran test and that performed well. Put request for RMA into Asus. Will post update after replacement card is installed.

Just want to report back that I got a new video card and all is well. It runs well and the system hasn't crashed since pulling the card which experienced a cooling fan failure.
