Critical error: event id 41 Kernel-power

    Hi there,
I am concerned about a new build that I received on the 12th of September. I only discovered event logs yesterday and I am alarmed to discover I have had 45 critical errors since the 12th:

event id 41 , task category 63, source kernel-power. saying 'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.'

    EventData
    BugcheckCode 209
    BugcheckParameter1 0x0
    BugcheckParameter2 0x2
    BugcheckParameter3 0x8
    BugcheckParameter4 0x0
    SleepInProgress 6
    PowerButtonTimestamp 0
    BootAppStatus 3221225473

Likewise, I am getting Kernel-boot errors event 29 'windows failed fast startup with error status 0xc0000001.

I have run memtest and done 3 passes all 100%.

Also when I got the PC on the 12th I was getting bsod when viewing youtube videos in firefox, although that has stopped as I've disabled hardware acceleration.

I am shutting the pc down correctly.

All drivers / bios / windows updated. System is not overclocked.

I'm unsure how to investigate this further, could someone point me in the right direction, or better still, tell me what's causing this to happen!

    All the best,

    Rob

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!
Also, with the release of Win10, I'm up to my neck in stuff to do with it!

FYI - Event ID 41 is simply Windows way of saying it doesn't know why it shutdown. It can be due to hardware problems/overheating, due to BSOD's, or even to shutting down the computer by holding the power button down. An examination of the Admin Event log may give us some ideas.

    Please do the following:
    - open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
    - expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
    - right click on Administrative Events
    - select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
    - save the file as Admin.evtx
    - zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
    - upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

As for the 0xc0000001 error, that's another "no duh!" error. It means
    "The requested operation was unsuccessful."

As the BSOD's stopped/slowed when you disabled hardware acceleration, my first guess would be the video card (one possibility is that it's overheating - the utility above may help to identify that). You can also unplug the system from the wall and open up the case to check to see:
    - if the video card is firmly seated in it's slot
    - if the power to the video card is firmly plugged in and seated (if it has power plugs)
    - if the video card cooler is free of dirt/dust/hairballs/etc
    - if the fan on the cooler is working and blowing in the proper direction (pushing air through the cooler)
    - if there is a source of cool air that the card can draw in for cooling (in other words, make sure that nothing is spilling hot air into the cooler)

Please be sure that you have ALL available Windows Updates.

A lot of problems with your wireless drivers in the WER section of MSINFO32. Please:
    - download a fresh copy of the latest, Win8.1 compatible wireless drivers
    - uninstall the current wireless drivers from your system
    - install the freshly downloaded drivers
    - monitor for further BSOD's
FYI - this is the most likely cause of your BSOD's, so please start with this.
Later on in this post I'll suggest using Driver Verifier if this doesn't fix things.

Uninstall AsRock XFast LAN and XFast USB - they have been known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.
NOTE: these symptoms were from the previous release of OverDrive. The new release uses the same driver name, but is dated from 4 November 2013.
Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.
Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.
Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The memory dumps point to you wireless drivers so that's the place to start.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

    Hi Usasma,

Here is the zipped file of events that you requested.

Usasma - checked video card - all fine, plenty of cool air, seated, plugged in firmly.

I've got all latest windows updates.
Uninstalled and reinstalled latest wireless drivers.
ASRock Xfast LAN + USB uninstalled.
Uninstalled CCC and reinstalled latest driver.

Should I enable Hardware acceleration again? Is there anything I should be looking for in event manager with regards to latest changes (wireless drivers/video card drivers), the event id 41, and... anything else?

Once again, thank you for your hard work in helping me resolve this problem.

I also cannot see non-plug and play when I do the show hidden devices and I am getting an error in relation to AODDriver4.01: 'The AODDriver4.2.0 service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.'

    How do I uninstall it?

I have managed to delete AODDriver. The only errors I am getting now are:

Store-Licensing 512 Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490

    and

    EnhancedStorage-EhStorTcgDrv

A TCG Command has returned an error.
    Desc: AuthenticateSession
    Param1: 0x1
    Param2: 0x60000001C
    Param3: 0x900000006
    Param4: 0x0
    Status: 0x1

Does this mean I need to do a fresh reinstall of windows and put in a cmd prompt to disable bitlocker? arrghhh!!!!

    Hi RobEC ^_^,

Unfortunately, Usasma is very busy and add to it that his system is not behaving well

Has your BSOD problem been fixed? If not, then kindly post back with a freshly generated SF Diagnostic ZIP File.

If you are facing only the problem mentioned by you in your last post, kindly run the DISM According to the below quote -
Then please run the following DISM commands to see if there's any problems with the system (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt). Press Enter after each one:
    Code:
    Code:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    Code:

    Code:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
If the problem is fixable, you can use this command to repair it (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt). Press Enter after typing it:
    Code:
    Code:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
From this article: Repair a Windows Image

Also run sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt to check for further corruption.
In case of any further problem, please do not hesitate to post back ^_^

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

The AODDriver error has happened before.
It happens because the computer is trying to load the AODDriver4.2.0 file(s) - but it's no longer there.
This is one of those errors that's safe to ignore

If you still wanted to pursue it, the clue is that it's the AODDriver4.2.0 service - so look in services.msc to see if you can find it there. Also, try searching in Autoruns - search for the AODDriver string - that'll pull up anything that has AODDriver in it (then disable it).

I haven't found a system yet that doesn't have any errors in the Application, System, Admin log files.
On my own system I ignore errors if I'm not having problems. If the errors bug me, I search around to see what they relate to, then I check those functions to see if they are broken. If not, then I leave them alone.

    Good luck!

Hey guys I just wanted to say thank you for your help and all the time you have put in to resolve my issues, it has been greatly appreciated. I will mark this as solved later as I still need to run the DSIM, but so far no BSOD and it has given me a good grounding in how to use my pc!

Much obliged and all the best
