Hi!

I recently got a laptop from Scan.co.uk, it's a custom build using the Clevo kit.
I have been having intermittent BSOD's with a Driver Power State Failure message at random times, I can't see a discernible pattern.

It can happen whether on the desktop, chrome or gaming but generally on the desktop during minimal use.
I can play games for around 8 hours without issue but sometimes I'll get the error straight after booting up or whilst shutting down or just doing work in chrome.

I've seen people with similar issues in this forum and have tried to make sure all my drivers are up to date but I'm missing something somewhere :(

Any help offered would be greatly appreciated

Steps I've taken so far;

  • Avast Virus scan - No threats
  • Eset online scan - No threats
  • All windows Updates Applied
  • Dism run
    • "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth" - The component store is repairable. The operation completed successfully.
    • "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth" - The component store is repairable. The operation completed successfully.
    • "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" - The restore operation completed successfully. The component store corruption was repaired. The operation completed successfully.

Hi ApocalypseMeow & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-

As we can see that the "nvlddmkm.sys" which is the NVIDIA Graphics Driver failed to perform a Power Completion Routine or in other words an Input/output Request Packet was blocked which caused the Bugcheck.

Since you are using a laptop, I strongly suggest you to install the Graphics Drivers provided by the manufacturer. I have no idea where you would find drivers for a custom laptop :( . It would be great if you could point me towards the link ^_^.

So, before you install the older drivers, please remove your current set of Graphics Drivers using the Display Driver Uninstaller which can be downloaded from this **LINK**.

Once you are done removing the current set of drivers, please restart the system. After restarting the system, install the graphics drivers provided by the Manufacturer or from the Driver CD which you might have received with the system.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Thanks for such a quick reply :D That makes sense as it switches the Nvidia GPU on/off depending on the application in use.

I'm currently using the latest Nvidia drivers just because i always update out of habit but I'll revert back to the one from the manufacturer's site and see if that helps as you suggest.

BIOS and Manuals
Drivers

If the driver they provide above doesn't help then I'll also look to update the BIOS and possibly the the [DEL]Video BIOS[/DEL] too I guess? (Scratch that, just checked and my Video BIOS is the same version as that update)

Stuck in a hotel with slow Wifi right now but will try download the drivers tomorrow at the office and let you know how it goes :thumb:

Hi,

I used the tool you linked to uninstall the Drivers in safe mode and then restarted. After that though I was unable to install the recommended driver as the setup couldn't find any compatible hardware. I could see it under Device Manager as an unknown 3D video controller but it wouldn't even let me manually assign the driver file from the installer and select my device.

I've used system restore to go back before that and will have to try again after work

Ok, haven't had much luck, the drivers that they list on there will not install for me, always failing to find compatible hardware. I downloaded the newset drivers and they are installing fine, I'm hoping they'll be better now that I ran the DDU tool beforehand. I've also updated the BIOS and EC Firmware. Will let you know if/when it bluescreens again!

Sorry been traveling alot for work and had no time to fix this. I've installed the driver that came on the DVD with my laptop rather than the one on the manufacturer's site and so far everything has been good going in and out of multiple games so I'm pretty happy!

If anyone else comes across this problem then for reference I'm using the 344.11 Geforce driver and it seems stable :)

Thanks for the help!
