To Whom It May Concern:
Long story short:
My son has a Win 8.1 notebook ASUS model: R500VJ . I asked him to make a recovery disk when he bought it, but alas, he did not listen to his dad. Anyway, here is the message:

Recovery
your PC couldn't start properly
after multiple tries, the operating system on your PC failed to start, so it needs to be repaired.
error code: 0xc0000001
you'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media, contact your system administrator

What should I do?

Thank you in advance,
David Durbin

Contact Asus to see if you can purchase recovery media (I've been told that they stopped providing recovery media).
If not available from them, then purchase it elsewhere.

FWIW - you can create a repair USB drive from any Win8.1 system.
Don't bother copying the recovery partition as it likely won't work on the Asus
You won't be able to reinstall Windows with this (unless you can access the RESET function through the tools), but you will be able to run the different repair functions.

I suspect a problem with the hard drive when I see an error of 0xc0000001 - but that's just a guess on my part.
You can try these free, bootable diagnostics: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
